Audio CD burning issue: different levels of audio

I like to create and burn my own compilation audio CDs of my favorite songs from different albums on my computer. I usually play the compilation CD on my CD player in the car. There is one problem however. Usually the different tracks from different albums have different audio levels so when I mix them into one compilation CD the audio level from one track to another is not uniform. Sometimes it is quiet so have to turn up the volume. When it moves to a different track suddenly the sound level is so high that I have to turn it down. Do you guys have any idea on how to make the audio levels in burned audio CDs to become uniform? Is there a particular program for that?

I used to use the Nero burning program to burn my audio CDs. However there is another problem with Nero where I am unable to navigate the tracks on my audio CDs (the CD player only recognizes the first track). I finally figured out that the problem was due to lack of pregap value between tracks after using another program called Imgburn. I actually discussed the problem here: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/2390226.aspx Have you tried to use the Imgburn program? Is it possible to normalize the audio in Imgburn? If it is not possible I might try to use the Nero program back. However I need to be able to access/navigate the different tracks in my audio CD. There is probably the roundabout way of burning the audio CD where I use the Imgburn to create the CUE file and use the CUE file to burn audio CD using Nero where I can normalize the audio. But this is not practical. Do you know how to set the pregap value from 0 to 2 seconds between the tracks in Nero?

I finally realized that the Nero program that I use is the Nero Essentials version which came bundled with the DVD writer that I bought. This version of Nero apparently has very limited functions. So when burning audio CDs using this program I can't have any control to the settings such as normalize audio and pregap adjustments etc. The Imgburn program that I use has better functionalities. Still when burning audio CDs I can't find any setting for audio normalization. Finally, a found a neat little application (freeware) called EAC (Exact Audio Copy) that's geared more toward copying audio CDs. Even though this program is small it is very powerful and in this program I can normalize the audio levels as well as adjust the pregap values. This is their website: http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

Depending on what software you use to burn your CD, the software itself provides this service, i don not know what software you use, but you might find in the software itself a way of balancing the sound of music.
