I have trouble falling asleep at night... what should I do?

A lot of the time I can't seem to fall asleep at night. I lie there and read and really try and try to feel more sleepy and fall asleep, but usually it takes me somewhere between 1-2 hours to fall asleep, which I personally think is too long. Once I fall asleep though, I have no trouble sleeping at all. Have you ever had this problem? What did you do? Are there any remedies for this?

You could try drink some hot milk, or passion fruit juice... will makes you calm down and you can have a great night of sleep

Hi, From what you reported here, I derive that its a merely psychological problem. Though I said 'merely' you should in no way, underestimate or neglect the problem. In my response I'll try to find out a more permanent solution to your problem. First of all you should try to calm your mind before going to sleep. Don't watch television, or seat in front of computer for more than an hour before going to sleep. A calm and composed frame of mind is very necessary for having a sound sleep. Try to meditate, regularly, once before going to sleep and then after waking up. Try to identify the purpose of your life. Then identify your short term goal. During the whole day, try to contribute more to this short term purpose of yours. The more contribution you have the more satisfaction you'll get. This satisfaction is extremely important, so make sure that you get it. Also don't go to sleep immediately after taking your dinner. Rest for a while, if possible talk a short walk. 1-2 hours, as you said, would be just fine. During this period try not to get excited. Immediately after eating our blood pressure rises and body temperature increases. Try not to evaluate yourself or recapitulate while sleeping. Instead, try to detach yourself from everything. Saying your prayers often help. Do some exercise. You should burn a minimum amount of calories just to exhaust yourself so that you may get tired enough to get a sound sleep. Lack of exercise is also a reason for lack of sleep. Thanks. God bless you.

This usually happens to me when I have slept during the afternoon. Doing that would definitely give me a hard time sleeping at night as I have not spent the energy to feel tired or sleepy at all. The only thing that I could do would be to either do something until I get tired and sleepy or just lie on bed until I do really feel sleepy. Thinking about things also affects me if I am trying to sleep. Thinking too much doesn't get me to sleep that easily but, having nothing to do make me think more while lying on bed so, I just really have to avoid sleeping at an earlier time or else, it'll trouble me later on the evening.
