We are having a heat wave and the home AC broke yesterday. It was about 105,and today is supposedly going to be about the same. Thank goodness it cools off here at night (see "Delta breeze").
This is where my children say to me, "mom, there are children roasting in Africa, and they don't have air conditioning EVER".
Whiner...

I am no parent because my first reaction to that would be, pack your bags and go there!. Here I Need air conditioning! Not only would I whine, Whine? No more like B!tch over no A.C. I wouldn't be in the house. I would be at a hotel or else not only would the kids have a whining mother but a sick mother. If I get too hot, I get sick.

Thank G-d. My mom said she prayed for her grandchildren! I never gave her any so the prayers were answered as far as I'm concerned. I Know I am way too impatient to be a good parent. Do you get your AC fixed or has you weather changed like here in Northern VA. today there is no need for AC , thank G-d!

I can relate at the beginning of summer my air conditioner broke and went without for 2 days although it was around 98 then. At rush hour today I had to drive to Yuba City for my nieces b-day party by the time we got there we were soaked from sweating. I hat the traffic in Sacramento at rush hour. UGH! I hope it gets fixed for you soon. Yo hav every reason to whine right now. Hope we cool down soon. No real relief until Sunday last I heard, and then only to upper 80's you may still be a few degrees hotter though.
What type of cheese did you say you like with that "whine"?

I was there in March and left the hotel by LAX at 5:20 to go to the hotel in Anaheim it took almost 4 hours to go 60 some miles. Your right I hate LA, I have no idea how anyone gets to where they need to be on time. The traffic was beyond ridiculous.
How is your air conditioner?

Rush hour traffic in Sacramento? You would HATE Los Angeles. It's rush hour practically 24/7...

at least it cools off at night
what you do is open the windows at night and early in the morning, and when it starts warming up, you close everything and shut the curtains/blinds to keep out the sun
that's what my mom did in Durango Co... it would go into the upper 90's in the day and down into the 50's at night - she bought a fan just to stir the air around when the house was shut up...

I heard it was relatively cool in Bandung because of the elevation.

Yes indeed its cool because of the elevation. Its always cool every day especially when it rainy continuously like now, a sweater is a must.
In this situation I also hope I can go to beach or somewhere else where is sunny. This climate change seem change the weather all over the world, its already 9 month rainy season

See I was spoiled by having central air in my home, so now that I no longer own my home, oh my God I want to die. Well when I had it I use to pay for it, so this is where my spoiling needs to stop as I do not pay for it anymore.... But I still wan to die.

First house had a wall unit in the master bedroom, 2nd house had central air, but only after we replaced a broken unit, third house has it too, but it's broken. Ya'd think after less than 4 years in the house, the durn thing would still be working.

Just read an email alert where you post about a stick stuck up you know where and I had forgotten about that discussion for a split second I thought it was for this one and I was going to reply. My stick has fallen and it can't get up. LOL.....
Nuebers with a bit of language barriers are misinterpreting discussions, I suppose this is why I have been dropping in ratings.. Oh well life goes no. Got suddenly hot over here.
Sorry I just couldn't resist.

I know how bad that can get lol. The Air went out at work for 2 days it was over 100 in there both days. we couldnt even open the doors and get a breeze through there. And of course we werent allowed to have a fan either. it was hard not to whine.

We have been spoiled haven’t we? We have a pool that I won’t swim in because it’s not heated even during the hot weather I rather sit inside in the air conditioned house while everyone swims! Poor me I can’t handle the cold water! No A/C I would whine big time!

I'm swimming in the rain from tropical storm Nicole. Lord, she has been a witch. The sun is shining but the skies are beginning to darken. OMG have to run. As we are marooned off from the city the gas stations will run out of gas so I have better fill up now!..........(this is me running off in haste - - -

That really does stink that your air conditoner went out, my mother's went out a couple of weeks ago as well and now she needs $6000 to replace her HVAC system. I don't know if she is going to be able to do it. That said, your kids are right about the kids in Africa, but the difference is that they don't know the difference. I don't think that we would miss air conditioning if we had never had it either.

This is just a twist on those times the kids leave food on the table, and I say there are a lot of children starving in Africa.
And the kids then say, Oh OK then can you send them my leftovers.
And I say 'smart aleck' (or something similar).
And they say 'whiner'

Ya, in afrika the night is very cool because lack of cloud to and structure to absorb the heat during the day ,so at night is quite cool in afrika. however the evening and morning will be dry and hot i guesss. In my country there is only 3 weather, hot , raining or both. Since we are near the equator the weather is quite the same. Yes children are spoilt at young with aircon and hot water.I remember during my young days we bath a cool weather and imagine it is cool when it is hot outside.Nowsday without aircon children don sleep and don bath with cold water.

Lately our temperatures have fallen - thank goodness. This has been a terrible summer down here. All summer long our A/C in the car has been broken. Trying to drive around town with temps over 100 has been just gross! I am so grateful for the cool temps now. Hopefully our heat wave won't last too much longer.

Hmmm - very mature response from your kids Dawny. But the issue is, what you dont know you cant really miss. Moreover, you and me are at a stage where our bodies are undergoing some hormonal changes, because of which we might be feeling more of that heat than is usual. So I would not give in to that one.

You are Not! There are ways of looking at things.
Here's one.
105 Deg. F (That about 41 Deg Celsius) and that's just about sauna temperature. Chin up! and enjoy the sauna till the AC gets fixed. Hope that happens fast.

I know I'm being nitpicky here, but how can it be a sauna when we don't have any humidity?

We did have it, and my mom always had it set to 70 degrees in the summer. I'd be cold and she'd tell me to put a sweater on!
