I spend about USD 0.50 for breakfast, $ 0.75 for lunch and $ 1.00 for dinner. Take another another USD 0.25 for the tea and snacks, so the grand total for a day is $ 2.50. All of this in Indian Rupee. What would be the cost of your food even if you ate at home?

That is almost same as the average spending for a day on food in India, in a middle class eating place. It's nice to know that people from other countries fit the same bracket.

Yeah, a very simple meal from McDonald's here in the Phils. costs $1 and up. But, I can buy cheaper and healthier meals from small eateries/restaurants. :)

A little bit of juggling there in my case. :) $1 breakfast, lunch $.75, dinner $.75, and about $1.0 on beverages, and $0.5 on fruits. I am quoting lunch and dinner a bit on higher side, primarily because of the vegetable costs. I eat plenty of vegetables.

May be I quoted it higher. :( Actually I divided my expenses on food and beverages by two, and then quoted it here. It includes breakfast and lunch of my maid. So it should be closer to what you have quoted, except that breakfast is heavy, lunch is light, and dinner is the lightest.

$ 4.00 that's about Rs. 200.00, about the average of a normal diet. Festival season is just around the corner, and I expect at least 50% increase in food prices. Thank God it will be temporary.

Well, I mostly eat home prepared food, so I cannot give such a breakup. However, If eating outside, the meal costs anywhere from Rs. 35 to 40/- onwards which is around $0.9, and for a full day it could be between $2 to $3.

Since I eat my three meals out, I can tell you your estimate is correct. Food at home does not cost so much and is much cleaner and healthier. You are lucky to get to eat at home.

well when i was a student my daily spending when it comes to food is $2-3 a day. and that is in the slightly above average of what a student will spend for food. well for the food i ate at home, i dont really have any idea about it.

Not too long ago that would have been expensive, with food costs going up it is about the average spending.

In weekdays I usually spend 0.5-0.6 USD on breakfast, usually eating breads and drinking soybean milk. Lunch in the building usually costs me about 1.2 USD. With regard to supper, I usually have it at home, the cost of which is about 2-3 USD for three people. The spending for food was quite low in the past but is increasing very rapidly in the recent years.

You can say that again Simon, basic living cost has rocketed up. What I eat cost half just five years ago! We are truly making a living just to live. No scope for goodies. Soybean milk huh? Good protein and with bread, a good mix of Carbs! Good diet my friend.

Ram, if I have equated the money you spend for your food, to quality and quantity correctly, then you are having a balanced diet. Keep it up!

Wow ! I belive that food it`s not so expensive in your country . In mine country, the prices for food are too big for normal people ( i say about normal people that are earning aprox $330 /month ) . With thouse $330 one person need to live for a month and he needs something like $5 / day for one person and that`s $150 /month , without bills and everything else . But the cost of food can be lower if he will eat less or not so good ...
