Squirrel - A squirrel hoarding a nut

We have been getting a lot of rain just recently where I live, I think the last nice day we had was last Tuesday. And everyone of course is behind with the leaf raking and removal in their front yard. So I am in the front yard this morning picking up rubbage that has blown into my yard from the fall winds. I notice that another of my neighbors is out and about in his yard, which he shares with me. It is Mr. Squirrel from the big old tree in my front yard. Now usually he is in a good mood and will be content to sit up in his tree and watch what I am doing. But this morning he seems to be in a huff and is busy gathering his acorns, up and down the tree he goes preparing for winter. I am amused once again, with what a good little worker he is. Up and down he goes, scurring here and there to find those acorns not paying any attention at all to me. So I move a little closer to the tree just wanting to get a peek at where the little guy is scampering off to hide those nuts. He comes flying out of his little squirrel nest just a screeching and screaming at me, he gave me quite a start! There he is up in his tree, not much bigger than a kitten and he is scolding me like a mother would scold her child for playing in the street. I would find it amusing too if he wasn't coming down the tree a little further each time he started off into another scolding. I am backing up away from the tree, away from that angry squirrel. And, Oh my! he's right down out of the tree now and coming across the lawn at me. I turn and run into the house slamming the screen door behind me. By now he's right up on my porch, still giving me a scolding, I swear he's even shaking his little fist at me! What a nasty little guy he is today! I guess though he thought I was after his acorns, looking to plunder his winter stores. He has since gone back to work but is still eyeing me , giving me wary looks. It would have been almost funny except for the fact that it kind of erked me, having such a little critter get the best of me. Do you have squirrels around your home? Have you experienced an angry squirrel like mine? Or are there other critters where you live?

We have squirrels here, but we generally leave them alone. My cats fight them sometimes, but there are plenty more.

I generally do leave them alone too, LOL. I don't know what possed me to try to see what Mr. Squirrel was doing but I will not be doing that again soon! Oh well, we live, we learn. :)

Most little squirrels around here do not stop and or look at anyone, at least in my experience. Thy usually run for cover. I have to say your little guy is quite friendly.

LOL, I'm not sure friendly is the word for him but he sure is interesting. I think my little guys got a temper, he was just putting the run to a couple of birds. I'm beginning to think he needs anger management, LOL.

We used to have pecan trees in our yard and when my mom would hang out her clothes, some of the squirrels would sometimes scold her. Not as entertaining as the afternoon I watched 6 squirrels play chase through those same trees. Then there was the afternoon my roommate and I watched a family of squirrels playing chase through our trees, across the roof and teasing the dog. She had her binoculars to see them better. The mom squirrel, I think, came down and really got close to the dog. I guess the only wild animal that has really made me nervous was an opossum who growled at me in the dark once...
