How do I add a banner to my profile?

I've done what I have read from other questions.
1) Click edit profile
2) Add content
3) Pick HTML Sortie
...
But every time I paste the banner's codes in the box and click save it "vanishes". I thought maybe it worked so I "viewed profile", but it didn't. What did I do wrong?
