Do you give money to homeless people, beggars?

I saw a man holding a sign at a busy intersection today. The sign read, "Family of 4, out of work, will work for food, please help." I stopped and handed him a little cash as I drove by.
Is this something you do? What are the chances that the writing on the sign is in fact true and does it matter to you?
Thanks for looking and responding.

You know, it's hard to ever know for sure if someone is lying or not. I figure on one hand I would rather give to someone who doesn't need it than to not give it to someone who does have a need..but if you gave it in good faith, let God sort it out!

I help some of them, but I'm sure some are cons. That's between me and God and them and God. I'm doing what is right, so I get blessed. If they are doing what is wrong God will take care of that.

No. And see them all over town. One is up by a grocery store where they stand out by a bus stop with their sign. It is a who family, even the children. I would be mortified to do this much less with my kids. Our community recently asked that people give to organizations that help the homeless and not to give to the directly. I think this is a very good idea and wish they had announced this a long time ago.

I help ones that seem like they need help. I am only twenty & a full time college student without a job so I try to help but not always, only when I have a few bucks to spare and it seems like they deserve it. I do not give money to beggars who are young and have the ability and built to go to work!
