I will tell the truth and I will also tell them that next time, it won't happen again. But if it happens again, then this is the time that I will make it up and make some other reasons like, it is hard to take find a ride or I have other urgent business to attend, etc. etc. haha

haha! That is really a good improvement! Keep it up!
I hope that I would not be late for my work because it will really be terrible. I don't like the feeling being late because I am afraid of my boss getting angry. So, I try my best to be early.

I don't make any excuses. Because I'm never late. I don't mean to be bragging, it's just that I have always said it's very easy to get to work on time. You find out whaqt time you need to leave your house to get to work on time, and you leave at that time. As far as waking up, I wake up early. I have to be at work 9am. My alarm goes off at 6:15am. And most of the time, I'm 15 minutes early. gives me time to g3tr a cup of coffee. You should try it. Your employer will appreciaete it.

No we don't. But if you are late a few times, you can get a warning. And he let us know (by us I mean he actually talked to 4 or 5 people at the same time, then talked to each of us individually.) that he has a three strike rule. But I just don't like being late. I had given a day notice at TicketMaster phone center because I got a better offer. On my last day, I walked in with a friend. It was 8:55 and there was a 9 0 clock meeting. I wanted to hurrey up and get up there. She asked me if I was worry about bad references and told me don't worry, they can't say anything bad about me. I said no, I'm not worried about that, I already got the job. There was one of the managers walking up. She asked me if I was worried about him seeing me and told me not to worry about that. It was like she couldn't understand that I just don't like walking in late, first day or last.

Yes your right, traffic is not an excused. For me, I don't explain why I am late, thus I keep smiling and telling them that I'm sorry.

Trully its hard to reason out. Maybe you can tell them the real story. That's it! Honestly is the best policy!

I just tell the truth when I am late. However, I hate to be late though, so if I find I am always running late I will adjust my schedule so that I have plenty of time to be there on time next time!

Hello meipan,
I haven't been late for a long time and I'm not aiming to be.:)
But when I know I would be late, I inform my boss or colleague.
That is important for an employee to show that you are a professional.
But then again, who can blame you?? Everyone wants more/better sleep once in a while, heck everyday if possible! :)

I don;t like to be late for anything. if i am late, I usually have a logical excuse. Oversleeping is a common one. Some people will tell you they got a last minute telephone call or they lost their keys. Nobody wants to admit the real reason they are runing late.

I'm always late... Generally, it is because I live nearby and I could afford to lounge around before going too work and often times I enjoy that too much.. I am late...

You know on the rare times I am late, I offer no excuses. If I am late, it is just poor planning on my part. You should really in all cases plan to leave quite a bit earlier than you need to. Because, things happen that can delay you. Plus, we tend to underestimate the time that we need to do something in very many circumstances. Therefore, we just got to manage our time so we have enough time to account for the unforeseen.
I apologize that I was running late and hopefully the person will understand that such things will happen. However, I think I am getting far better in managing my time than I had been in the past. So, there are times where getting out the door and getting out of the driveway can take longer than expected and I can run in delays. It is best to plan some extra time for these things.

This post must not be seen by our bosses!
Anyway, here in the Philippines, the most popular excuse is "The traffic was horrible".

One time I told my boss I had a very severe case of diarrhea and couldn't get out of the toilet for 30 minutes. He never asked me again why I was late.
Usually, when I wake up and realize I've overslept, I call my office immediately. Sometimes I tell the truth, sometimes I make something up, like I am at the bank and there a huge line of people in front of me, or I have to take the cat to the vet because it swallowed something... things like that. Anyway, I found it's better to inform people in advance you're going to be late, then to make up an excuse after you arrive at work.

If i have an appointment i make sure that i am early. But, I think it's best to say you're sorry when you're late. No amount of excuses can compensate for being late. No matter how legitimate your reason are, when you're late it shows that one lacks discipline.

Sometimes I am late and usually do not have to give an excuse. I am an early riser, so it is not an issue of getting up too late. I will either get busy doing something or bedistracted by some other issue, then I do not leave enough time to get ready for work.
I do not like this. I would rather get there early.
Thanks for asking

I was on the reviving end and could not help but wonder each time the same employees were late constantly. Every time they came to me to explain I knew they were lying through their teeth as it was so outrageous the stories I would get since we had pretty much the same routes and scheduled. I certainly admired a person who came and told the absolute truth that they were truly sorry but they had a later start that day.
It was funny tough to hear the outlandish traffic stories...

I'm seldom late for work or anything. If I'm late, I will tell them the actual reasons. Late is late, there's no point arguing why. It's up to them to believe in whatever we say. We can have really valid reasons to be late but if they don't trust us, they will see it as a make up excuse. When that's the case, why bother to find lie when we can save our efforts by telling the truth. I'm someone who doesn't like lateness and my boss knows it. So whenever I'm late, they don't question me for they know it does not happen all the time.

I tried to use traffic as my excuse before but its was rejected by my manager. So I just changed it from traffic to the cause of the traffic. I wrote it to my notice slip that there was an unexpected road construction which causes to have a very long traffic because only lane is moving. That seems to be acceptable so my manager signed it but still not a valid excuse. Then few days after, I already got my love letter (that's what we call it but its actually a written warning) for my tardiness. -)
