When does Modern Music genre turns un-Modern?

I recalled in the 80's that after the POP age, Modern Music came in and New Wave Follow... came the 21st century, where the new New jazz and RNB dominated the platform.. I keep on asking how do we refer to the old songs when they are no longer Modern and New? Do you have any idea how long a music turns "Un-New"? Can a music genre stay Modern forever?
