Partitioning a hard drive that's already filled with data is risky. You need to back up your drive/data before you attempt to create a new partition. You can try to use a proprietary program such as Partition Magic to do this. However, it is recommended that you defrag your drive before you do this so that all the data in your hard drive is moved to the beginning of your drive. I once did this when I installed Linux on a computer that already has windows with no problem so it is doable. I did not use Partition magic though. I used a freeware program that runs in DOS. I don't remember the name of the program.
