Hope I'm not to late to be of help but I recommend an "orion" one, I got mine on eBay it was cheap and does what you want it too. It doesn't have any other features like telling you how many calories you've burned or anything but it works. I've dropped it a couple of times too and it hasn't broken yet so it's tough.

I have a little cheap one that I got free at a local health fare. It is about 8 years old now and still works great. I just press the set button and it records the amount of steps, but that is about it. It does also convert it into miles as well, but other than that, that is all it does. I kept thinking I would get a better one, however, this one does the job so it is fine with me. Sorry I couldn't be any help.
