I know some of you hear will have differeing opinions on who is better than who. One thing I find about Metal, and I mean proper Metal, not that Screamo Black/Death Metal rubbish... but the cool stuff..... But I really consider and love proper Hevy Metal, and U notice or atleast I do, the best stuff is British (I am British but, I consider my first nationality to be Welsh)... I mean the stuff like Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Saxon and Motrhead are great examplles, and it really got a good footing in Birtain, and ofcourse took off in the USA and the rest of the World... but Who do you consider the best of the best, or just among your favourites...? (dont have to be british)
Saxon
Judas Priest
Rainbow
Black Sabbath
Dio
Ozzy
Motorhead
Deep Purple (not particularly metal, but big influence)...
of course i have missed loads here, but ti gives you an idea of what I mean, so what about you, add more, and show people what real Heavy Metal is?

I would go with Led Zeppelin first (though I change my mind very often about these things, I can never say that one band, singer or song is my all time favorite).
Then I guess it's AC/DC, also because I've seen them in concert this year and they were absolutely unbelievable, the amount of energy they had for the show, at their age... I had to sleep for two days straight to recover, and I was only a spectator.
Black Sabbath - for everything they've done for music, they were truly one of those pioneers that changed metal forever.
Judas Priest - not only they used to be great, they still are. Nostradamus is very original compared to their previous albums, and still brilliant.
I'm not sure if I should mention Cream, Queen and Steppenwolf here, but I've mentioned them already :) No playlist is complete without them.
My biggest disappointment for the current year was Aerosmith, saw them in concert, and honestly I liked the opening act better.
And I haven't mentioned Thin Lizzy, Iron Maiden, Twisted Sisters - there are so many great names in metal.

Nice list, personally I dont see the appeal of Led Zeppelin, yeah maybe they were popular and successful, but there is something about them that doesnt do it for me. I saw AC/DC at this years Download festival, although they were really good, and I nearly got crushed, I dont think they were the best, I personally preferred Aerosmith and Micahel Monroe who both performed awesomely.......

Yeah true, but actually AC/DC had their own stage. Basically they brought their stage, and had it set up next to the main stage. Was all coo, massive speakers too.

I listen to metal since I was 14 years old. My first metal band are Iron Maiden and Helloween. I still love them until now. Then I heard some black metal. But I didn't listen to them much now. Deicide, Dark Throne, Sodom, Obituary.
My favorite metal band now is something like this.
1. Iron Maiden
2. Helloween
3. Dawn Of Destiny
4. Epica
5. Nightwish
6. Cradle Of Filth
7. Dragonforce

I'm not a big metal fan but I do appreciate some of their music. Here are a few metal bands/artists that are interesting to me, meaning I appreciate or know 1 or 2 songs from them:
SLIPKNOT
METALLICA
KISS
MEGADETH
KORN
SYSTEM OF A DOWN

I love old school metal. It has magic, emotion and epicness that cannot be matched by any other type of music. I'm a huge NWOBHM fan. Maiden, Priest, Saxon, Dio will all live forever.
Some other good lesser known bands from the 80's:
Riot, Helstar, Manilla Road, Trouble, Running Wild, Agent Steel, Burning Starr, Sacred Blade, Vicious Rumors, Fifth Angel, Crimson Glory
Oh right now I'm listening to the album "Dominator" by Cloven Hoof. It's one of my all-time favorites!

Nice. Priest were just before NWOBHM, but really shot to fame in 1979/80. Dio isnt british so catn really be put into that category. But nice to see a traditional heavy metal fan!!

I'm totally with you on metal. Most of the newer metal is pretty bad though there are a few good bands. Here's my top 10 metal bands of all time in no particular order.
Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabath, James Dio may he rest in peace, Megadeth, Slayer, mercyful Fate, Metalica accept for load and reload Blind Guardian, Rainbow. There's plenty of others but I'll just leave it at that.

Ramstein is an awesome German band. They do some English versions but in truth you get a rush from the German even if you do not know what they are saying. My husband listened to them while living in Germany and got me hooked. Du Hous (not sure I spelt that right) is my favorite.
