There are lots of door to door sales people that are forever knocking on peoples doors and i am fed up of going to the door to answer it to people that craze me.I think that if i wanted a shopper cheque loan i am sure that i could ring them up,but i do not need any type of loan. Then you get the change your supplier people who always say that they are cheaper than all the others. Its agony for me to stand without getting to the door to answer it,so now i am getting one of those notice signs that you put in your window saying no cold calling, thanks to the accupational therpist.

When I was a child, there use to be door to door salesmen, but I haven't see any in ages.

The request we get are over the telephone, through the post, or in emails. The post get shredded, emails deleted, and we have caller ID, so we don't answer the telephone.

If it is kids who are trying to raise money for a school or team, I will support them, but if not, I will turn them all away.

Nowadays there seems to be soo many charitys knocking at the doors all the time aswell.I am getting a sign to put on my door as that way sales people know that they are not allowed to disturb me.I had 3 people trying their luck this week calling to see if i wanted to sell gold, change supplier and do a direct payment to a charity, all of them knocked loudly.

Do what my boyfriend's mom did and put a sign on your door saying "No Solicitors!"

Sometimes i wonder how they do it. It really takes guts to ring a person's doorbell, and still make your sales pitch despite the forbidding look on their face. One has to be very brave indeed.

I think that there are also people that are out there that take advantage of other people and their kind nature, getting them to buy things that they do not really want or need.I feel sorry for the elderly people that feel like they have to buy things off these people just to get them off their door step.

I am thankful that we do not have too many solicitors where I live. Once in a great while, on ewill knock at the door. Normally, I politely tell them upfront that I am not interested and that does the trick. Now, phone solicitors are another story. They call my house all of the time. I have caller id, however; and have gotten into the practice of not answering my phone if I do not recognize the number. If it happens to be someone that really needs to get a hold of me, they will call my cell phone.

Luckily for me I live in a very rural area out in the country. Sales people don't bother coming out here. It would be quite a long walk between houses and all the way up to the doors just to be shot down. I can't imagine dealing with that all the time. Best of luck with it. Hopefully the sign helps.

I just wouldn't answer the door. I don't answer the door to people I don't know. When there's a knock I just peek through the window in the door which is a mirror on their side and see who's there. I don't want to see Jehovah's Witnesses or solicitors. I even don't answer the door to some people I do know if I don't want to deal with them like when the band director came to talk about Iowa band camp my brothers, sister, and I all turned off the lights and hid while he knocked and rang the bell for 15 minutes. Heehee. Fun times. Just don't answer the door. You never know. We live in a safe neighborhood, but I'd rather not risk it. If someone needs to get a hold of you they can call first.

I have a cctv camera that i can swing round to see who is at my door and some times a friend of mine or the woman next door to me will ring me to say who is on their way around.I think that it is a shame that there are so many people like this that come to peoples doors.

We do not get them, at least not much. If I am upstairs, I do not even try to make it down. If I look out the upstairs window and do not see a car I know, why bother. I am not much of a shopper, anyway. I do not blame you for not wanting to open the door, you are in pain. It is not necessary. Just stick to it and let them stand there outside.

These people that come to the doors trying to sell things are now getting to the stage that they call trying to sell all sorts of things and none of the things that i want.Apparently if i put one of those signs om my door where they can see it,if they call they can get in big trouble,so i hope this will stop them knocking. They seem to knock really loudly aswell.

If I'm not expecting someone I don't bother with the door. Though, the other week my oldest ran out the door to see who was outside instead of waiting for me to tell her if it was ok or not. Usually I don't answer as I do get the occasional contractor wanting to do work on my house... yes my house obviously needs help but NO I CAN"T AFFORD IT! If I could afford it then the work would of been done TYVM! Otherwise we have people trying to sell us magazine subscriptions

I know how you feel it is very annoying having people come to your door selling things.
My son had a careers day at school and the police where there telling them about their jobs and they gave the children a pack each which included a sticker to put on the door saying I do not buy or sell at this door.
I put it on my door and so far I have had nobody coming to the door to sell me anything so it must be working.

Door to door selllers bug me too. I just got to the point where I don't answer the door if I dont know who it is. Plus you cant trust to manyh of them door to door people. They may not always be who they say they are. Too much stuff on the news so you always gotta watch yourself with that stuff. Could turn out badd!

You are not obligated to answer your door. If there is a way for you to see who is there, and you don't see anyone you know, there is no reason that you HAVE to open it. I only answer if it is someone I know. It's your house. You don't have to answer if you don't want to.

It is one of their tactics to sell goods door to door.To be honest,I do not like this kind of marketing because sometimes I am so bored of their badgering with me even though I have refused. But I do understand them because it is a way for them to make a living. When you are feeling exhausted, maybe they are worrying about their unaccomplished task.if we think this way, maybe we will not so angry with them.

I have a sign on my door not to knock however we now have a big gate in front so they cannot get to my door or even to my doorbell. In order to get into my house you have to use a cell phone and call to let us know.. we are fed up with attempted robbers, annoying sellers and what not.

We had thought that if we get one of those signs then perhaps it would stop all those sales people, that way i do not have to worry soo much. All my friends listen to hear me shout so that they know to come in.I have cctv,so 9 times out of 10 i know who is at my door, but other times i am not in the room to look at the cctv.

Ugh! I know what you mean! It gets so annoying having to answer the door for these people. Some of them dont even give up until someone actually answers the door. Just the other day some guy comes knocking really hard on my door and ringing the doorbell multiple times! Come on, how can you expect to even sell something by knocking on the door like that. What an idiot. I just opened the door, said I'm not interested and just closed the door. And if you're trying to sell something, wouldn't you be dressed nice? This guy was wearing a dirty gray shirt with these sloppy baggy looking jeans! Ugh. Sales people, please stay away from my door!

It seems like they are also trying to knock the door down, when they knock on it and they tend to carry on knocking until they get an answer. The post man knows to give me time to get to the door,so he knocks gently every time.I am getting a sticker/poster saying no cold callers,in the hope that sales people will stop calling.

Seems after reading the first page of responses to this discussion that this happens to a lot of people. I can't say it happens to me. I haven't seen a door to door saleman for at least 20 years. I have always lived in a house and I have a front door and easy access to my house, but I have never had a door to door saleperson come to my door in over 20 years. Don't get it!!!
I used to have people selling things like make-up (avon people) at my door but now they just put a catalogue in my mail box even though I haven't purchased any avon from them before. And I used to get encyclopedia sales guys at my door but now they phone solicate their appointments and don't go door to door anymore. Same thing with vaccuum cleaner salesmen, not door to door anymore.
So I don't know who would be selling door to door anymore. What kind of things do these people try to sell to you? You can buy a sign that says NO SOLICATORS to put on your window, at walmart for a couple dollars. It is red so it is really noticable in your window, or you could buy a white one.
Cheers my friend and happy mylotting,
Chris

Put a sign on your door: NO SOLICITATIONS. You never have to open the door. I would just ask who it is and tell them to go away and not come back. I can't believe they are going door to door to try to get people to take out loans. How rediculous is that. I would laugh at them.

I hate door to door salesmen athought I have been fortunate enough to not really have that many come to my door I think the maybe twice has someone came to the door trying to sell me something. I know that there are many peole that I have also seen with signs saying No soliciters and I may think of getting one as well if there was enough people coming to the door trying to seel me stuff...I can only imagine how hard it must be for you to get up time after time answering the door for salesmen and I am glad that you are getting a sign for your door, I am hoping that it really does help!!!

Hi Jugs,
I hope the sign will be helpful. I can relate with your experience. However, i can also relate with those people selling door-to-door just to earn for a living. they were trained to be aggressive in selling their products. it's good that you made that signage. it will surely lessen your stress friend.

Hi Jugs
I don't get those offering loans I have never had that happen before what I do get however is the Jehovah's Witness and some of the solicitors selling everything from magazines to candy and concrete cleaner and also people wanting you to sign up for an estimate on home improvement we get those more than anything else
It can be a pain and most times I just look out the window and say no thanks not interested I don't even go to the door anymore because once you do that they just keep talking and talking and talking

There are loads of different sales people that are about and they sell things from dish cloths to changing electric supplier.I think that there should be more control over all the cold callers that we all get that come to our doors. Some of these sales people even turn up at night time.

Door to door as well as those telephone sales people really get on my nerves.I do not need shopper cheque or that provident thing popping to my door, after all if iu ever wanted alot of money, then what i would do is get a loan from the bank, as it is less interest.I am getting one of those signs to put in my window, lets hope that stops them.
