I think this is an irritating steps. I have to give the tags again and again .Some times i use to give the tag. But other times i skip it. Even in the responses they ask for tags. I think they should remove this tag or should limit this to discussion we started and not to responses.

No, I don't always do so. I only tag a discussion if I find some words suitable for it. Well, tagging is helpful. For example, if you search some topics at myLot, discussions with the same tags can easily be found out. A tag tells readers that what this discussion's about.

sometimes i tag discussions sometimes i don't. it depends in my mood, but there are discussions i responded to that would skip that step. despite the slight hassle, tagging helps the site and us to finding discussions that would interest us.

tagging means associating keywords to the discussion we are starting or we are responding to. the keywords i.e. tags should be relevant to the discussion and thus tags helps to search a discussion on a specific topic or helps to find a topic with that specific thing being discussed. so the whole motive is to assign a word for the whole discussion to let others recognize easily. so assign a tag whenever you can

I usually don't but that's because most of the time I come across one here someone has already done it.

Although not a requirement it certainly would assist members when they have questions about per say certain sites and features. If members would search the site for what they perhaps are asking for there would not be so many duplicate discussions and so many deletions after so many diligent responses. So for this reason alone I always prefer to tag, as it also helps me when a member is asking a how to, that I can easily search and provide a myLot link in a discussion.

I always tag my post, but I only tag half of my responses to other people post. because I can see other people already tagged the same keyword that I wanted to use, so I just skip the tagging.

I guess the question has been answered in the best possible way. Just to summerise, In the web world, it is important that whatever you write is heard and seen. The search engines can't load everything you write, so when you tag the discussion or the articles, they pick up these tags, and hence when someone like me searches the search engine, I find your discussion due to popularity of the tag, It's simple as it goes. So, you must tag every discussion you write, however, if you think it has the tags it was necessary, then you can skip, like I will be doing with this discussion, I see the tags are sufficient.

Well, i also dont tag my responses, i just tag tag discussions which i start. It is not really important to tag your discussions but it helps to find your discussion easily out of too many discussions if you have put thd tags on the discussions and after some months or year want to see it again then you can enter those tag words in the mylot search engine and can find them quite easily

I try to tag every discussion I participate in, it allows for more people to find a topic that interests them. Tags tie the discussion to keywords, so if someone searches for a topic the tagged discussion can pop up. Hope this helps, and start tagging :)
