How do you train a hyperactive labrador?

I have a puppy, she's 3 months old, hyperactive and begs for food. Is it better if I just send her to a dog training school? She's a darling. I know we'll miss her if we do that but we're all frustrated with her behavior.

I wouldn't send my dog to a dog training school. Not only you'll miss her, but your relationship will have to suffer. The best thing you should do is to train her yourself. There's plenty of dog training tutorials on the internet, all you need is time and patience. Here's one I liked: http://www.dogguide.net/training.php Another thing you can do is find a dog trainer to help you train your dog. Not one who takes the dog away to train her, but one who teaches you how to train her. You should be the one who hold the leash during training classes, the dog trainer should only give you all the indications needed.

You're welcome. I hope you will be back to let us know how your hyperactive puppy changes herself into the best companion. Be patient with her, she's only a puppy now. In a few months you'll wonder where is your boisterous puppy, and when did she become such a calm adult?

She will calm down as she gets older. I also have a lab mix, and he was really hyper when he was younger, and did not seem to respond well to training. But he got much calmer as time went by, I think labs are just very hyper as puppies in general!

I agree. Labs seem to be very hyper. I think what we have to remember is that labs are still puppies up until about three years of age. It's hard to think of them as puppies when they are bigger than you!

Hi sweetie. Rather send he to a training school. Labradors are fast learners. Before you know it, she will be back home again. You do have to attend most of the classes as well. That makes it so much easier. Luck. TATA.

I also have a labrador and no matter how hard we trained him, he is still as hyper active as before. he is already 2 years old and very much active. It is harder for me to calm him down since he is a big labrador. He is also a voracious eater and is also always hungry. Even though he is a hyper active dog we still enjoy his company.
