In my world religions class we have this assignment to meditate for ten minutes and then write how we feel or how it works but I'm now confused, what is the difference of day dreaming and meditation? I always daydream, anywhere, everywhere, even while driving, sometimes I just sit and stare at something then my mind gets an idea and then I concentrate on it, and then I get back to reality again. So if I was to meditate would it be the same as my way of day dreaming.

In my opinion the difference is that when you meditate you do it on purpose, think of something you have planned before, but when you daydream it happens suddenly without any purpose.

So maybe all this time, I wasn't daydreaming at all but meditating because there is always a purpose in my daydreaming, there is always a problem I'm solving and I'm always thinking it through and most of the time I am not doing it in random. Maybe I have not daydreamed yet or haven't realized it yet.

I find meditation is suppose to clear your mind. You are suppose to not think and just be. A daydream you are taken to a place where things happen to you. There's movement and action. I can't meditate. It turns into plotting a revenge or a plan for the days ahead. But daydreams come to relax me. They are a brief break from the busy day.
