I had no computer for three days.

Thanks to a virus and spyware I had no computer for three days last week. Forget the fact that for the first 65 years of my life, I didn't have one - I've rarely experienced another three days like these. It is amazing how something can become so much a part of our life that we would miss it as I missed being online. As you can imagine, I've seen a lot of changes in almost 71 years, I grew up without electricity, running water, TV, even radio until I was 12 years old. I think that I can say that I'm 'hooked'. Boy, was I happy to get back into today's world!

It is unbelieveable how dependent we are on todays technology. Living in the country we loose electric service quite often and can be snowed in for a week or so. During those thimes we return to basics and enjoy the challenge. We are prepared, but try not to get out the generator or fire up the wood stove until we hear that it will be many hours until we get our services back. I guess you don't miss what you have never had, but we are very spoiled.

Hi savypat, Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I agree. It is amazing how quickly we forget that we managed so long without these new gadgets. We loose electricity sometimes too and have to cope but I'm not one who believes that the old days were better. Blessings.

I'm not for the good old days either. Flush toilets and hot water heaters are two of my favorette things.

Welcome back Pose..I grew up with most of those things except for the computer. I was only a few years out of high before all students used the computers. In high school, it was for only a selected few. Now that I have a computer, I can't imagine how I got by..Plus I am able to take most of my college classes online, making it so fun, still challenging, but fun. I don't have to worry about what I am wearing or be starving while the teacher lectures..lol I can eat whenever and even take a break whenever I want..:)

Hi carmelanirel, Thank you and I'm very happy to be back. It never ceases to amaze me that we can get by with so little and yet get addicted to the new so quickly. The funny thing is I can't remember being bored when I was growing up, I guess we can't miss what we've never had. Even with all the technology today, kids still get bored. Blessings.

Yeah me too, I never was bored and we did have TV back then. But the great outdoors was better I guess because we only had black and white TV..;)

Yes, is really amazing how technology is changing our lives. We didn't have internet when I was in high school or college and now is so important to be connected with all of our friends.

I am also a die hard addict of computer and I spent most of my time online doing a lot of things like, share trading, online marketing of Mutual Funds etc. Life without computer even for a day is extremely difficult. I would like to share with everyone about the one side effect that I am experiencing is mental inertia because of which I feel dizzy, uneasy and have stopped engaging in physical activity. I think young people should be careful of this.

Hi pkdaftari, Thank you for sharing this and I feel that we all need to take a break once in a while. Maybe you are just spending too much time online. Blessings.

come to think of it, i only get to know the 'computer' when i was a 'working' adult.. email/internet was a 'privilledge' only for the 'Top Management'... nowadays.. they'd give you a pc, and email id on your 1st.day at work... and kidz, even the primary/elementary school kidz.. cant finish homework without the computer + internet... but for me internet - i think i can still survive without... but tv.. radio... phone.. NOPE !... gotta have those...

Hi 4mymak, Thank you for responding and I'm afraid I'm hooked, I'd give up my TV and radio before my computer - maybe even my phone. My wife loves her phone though. Blessings.

Hi there Pose, I do know what you mean. I grew up without internet and cell phones. I have at times lived without tv and running water and I don't get bored easily. Last week, I woke up to no internet and no phone. I usually start my morning on here while having my coffee. I re-booted this thing several times before giving up and showering and heading over to my providers office to seek a solution to this problem. It seems that I forgot to pay my bill and they shut me down in the middle of the night! I paid it and fixed the problem but you are so right....I missed it terribly in that short time. I know I could live without it but I don't think I want to. No matter how tight our money gets, I always manage to pay the internet bill.

It means you had lived three days without your computer. I think it is good because we shouldn't habitual for anything and always prepare for every types of situation and in this 3 days you also thinks that you can live without your computer and also you say that you can live without electricity, water, TV and many more things. I think it is great.

I really feel something is not right when I'm not able to use my laptop just for a day. I have my laptop with me everyday and everwhere I go for the last 6 years. My younger brother few times asked me if he could borrow my laptop for few days, and I was like, Oh my God, no never! lol. But yeah, I know how it feels for you :)

Yeah I know how it feels. On my vacation my parents took me to a place where no computers exist.Man i was frustrated. There are still some places where technology has not been established yet.I never wanna go to that place again.I don't know how people live in villages without technology. And another thing that annoyed me was the powercut.Hope that there will be no powercuts ever.
