Is UBUNTU Desktop good operating system ?

Today i visited www.ubuntu.com and downloaded Ubuntu Desktop OS.it seems good and faster than XP.it works very nicely but the problem is i am not getting proper softwares for ubuntu and i dont know from where i should download all the softwares for ubuntu.some softwares i use regularly on xp but i want them on Ubuntu.
this stuff i want on ubuntu as well
Yahoo messenger
Google talk
Video Codecs
Audio Codecs
Nokia pc suit
samsung pc suit
skipe
is it possible 2 get same softwares working on ubuntu?

I never tryed nothin different accept XP.
Are you sure Ubunto is good?

Yes ubuntu is very good and faster than xp,if you wanna try you can install it in your system drive without formatting your pc and it takes only 3-4 gb space on the disk.they have option to try without installing too.

dont compare ubuntu with xp as the prior one in linux and later is windows. it is obvious that xp is much gui oriented than linux. ubuntu is very good because it is lighter version of linux. if you are really interested to work with linux then go for fedora. if you have just tried on for a change then revert back to xp as it does not make your life easy but you will be in truoble to get the video and audio codecs. everything you need to search in internet for linux versions this is a big head ache. ppl prefer linux over windows just because of security concern. if your s is a home pc then dont even think of linux...!! have a nice day

Hey I have not yet tried Ububtu operating system. But I have heart about this that it is a very good and secure operating systems. I think it comes under Linux security. But I have not tried yet this. Can anyone tell me what the minimum requirement for this operating system is?

no such minimum requirements..i am running it with 512 ram..

well.. I think the softwares you need are not compatible with Ubuntu... I don't know about nokia and samsung pc suite, but regarding yahoo messenger, you can use the web messenger version of Yahoo..!!
Its really nice, simple to use, all the features except for chat rooms..
Regarding audio and video codecs, Ubuntu can get updated using the yum command, it automatically connects to the server and download the codecs, provided you know what codec version you want...!!
