How would you promote a product online effectively?

Blogs, free sites, etc. are great but it also depends on how you use them, which words you choose to describe your product, pictures you upload, etc.
Tips? Ideas? How would you do it? Thanks!

pemulabanget has some good info. What I would do is make several properties. A blog to put a few post on relating to the product, some Squidoo Lens and Hubpages on the product a Weebly website and link them all to each other. I would then go get backlinks to everything with article marketing and social bookmarking.
