Its a sad week this week. I spend the whole two weeks looking for a job. But I can't find one. Then one of my relative have a mild heart attack. He was bring to hospital, but when he arrived in the hospital the hospital ask for a deposit of 50,000 pesos or about 1,100 dollars. My relative family is poor so they don't have money to deposit. So they look for ways to find money. After 36 hours they only manage to have 20,000 pesos (480 dollars). My relative expires on the 36 hours as nobody is attending to him. So sad because he is still talking when he arrived in the hospital. And he even still talking after 24 hours in the hospital. But because of no money to deposit for an operation the hospital don't even bother to look at him.
So sad.

So sad indeed and a lot of similar stories I've heard in the past. There are laws I think regarding these cases "of saving the life of the patient first, before the monetary consideration...." but in our country, some laws are simply toothless.

I do agree. even if theirs a false teeth its still can't bite. lols. So its only means we need to accept the fact that in life if you are poor you are neglected. This is the real truth. Lets face it. No money no rights.

I am sorry for the loss of your relative. I guess this is a government hospital. This is a reality in some hospitals and it is so miserable. I hope that the current president will do something for the betterment of the healthcare system. And, it is not only up to the leader but also the citizens because it is for the cause of the country. From where I am working, I can proudly say that we value life so much that we take big risks in saving lives. We treat them first then workout the payment process. We cannot blame them though because they are bounded by their limited functions. I just hope that not all of the hospitals will be or are not like this in the Philippines.

It is truly sad and very disappointing about the things happening in our country like in the hospital. The hospital has no heart to attend to the patient but instead, demanded a deposit rather than taking care of life first. I didn't realize it is true what I heard in the news. I hope that something will be done against this bad and sad practice of hospitals not accepting patients without deposit. I suggest that instead of you looking for a job, start something. I believe you have some little amount. Use that to buy something and sell, until your money grows with your dedication, passion and initiative.

that was really sad to know that things like this happens in our society. e have experienced such things in the past as well that the nurses, doctors didn't attend to my mom hen e ruched her in the hospital years ago, they are asking for deposit as well, but my dad get mad on them and scold those on duty, he told them that they should attend to my mom and give the treatment that she needed while we are getting the money that they're asking. my dad said that if anything happens to my mom they will get what they are looking for! that's the only time i saw my dad that angry, thanks that the people in the hospital pay attention and treat my mom even the deposit is not the exact amount they are asking...its sad really that its even in a government hospital...
as to hat happen to your relative, that hospital should be condemned, they are after for money and not to save life. what kind of service was that... maybe you can report them to authorities.
my condolences to you and your family bulastika.

Thank you.
Its only in the Philippines I think.
That also what my sister has said. because I think they already raised 20,000 pesos and the deposit must be 50,000 pesos. But since they don't know how to plea or maybe they just give up. Because 50,000 pesos is just a deposit. It means theirs many more to spend after operation.

I can't say it's not sad of this world. the whole society or the whole world becomes more selfish than ever before, they offer help only if we give them the money they argued.I have heard such cases before. because of no money that hospital just ignore the patients and do nothing about the circumstance.I don't know what the goverment is doing, social security, health insurance or anything could help...it's just so sad of the world.
Anyway good luck and keep looking for a job for yourself, above all...we have to make money to earn our lives.

I hope that not all hospitals are treating their patient like that. Actually I watched a documentary before that some hospitals here in our country put on hold those patients that cannot pay their hospital bills. There is a section in the hospital in the basement where those who can't afford to pay must be jail there until they have money to pay the bills which is unfair. For sure they are so many people who have debt because of hospital bills, but to do not attend to the patient that is unfair and unjust. Doctors are responsible for the life of the patient while they are in the hospital, if the patient has the chance to live they have to do their best to make that patient survive because that is their job. I feel irritated with this. The general manager or the president of that hospital should make a statement over this, or you can make the public known that something like this continous to happen.

Sometimes we just need to accept that life is really not fair. In the end we are in the losing end. We can't afford lawyer. We can't afford to leave our job for a cause. I mean if we go absent for a job to attend a hearing or go to a person to hear us then it means another loss earnings. And even if it will go to earn its still financially borden and also emotionally draining.
..
So the best solution is accept the facts that we are poor.

This is so sad! Please know that you have condolences! Did he not have insurance? Here in the states, you just about have to have health insurance before they will admit you in the hospital. Health care is not that good here in the states right now because we have Barack Obama for a president! Please know that I will be praying for you and your family.

Why will be upset? I don't understand. Is their something to be upset about?
That is life. No money no life.
Money in todays time is what makes us happy.
Its a blunt supidity if you say you don't need money.
Its like having a boiled egg for dinner vs a steak.
You can live eating boiled egg but still its better if you eat steak right?

thanks.
No he don't have an insurance and he is young. About 40 years of age.
And we are a third world country. Usually 80% of population is below poverty line.
So its means having an insurance is a luxury not a necessity.

It is true, this really happens and so sad to think that hospitals are meant to save lives, but,it's not the main purpose anymore...hospitals now are all about business and money.
The true essence of medical person are not being served either since they are following the hospitals regulations "deposit policy"
But,if only some people knows how to fight for their rights, they can be helped with that initial payment they got in their hands.
I hope our government will do something about this matter.
God bless your relatives.

The 50,000 pesos deposit is for operation. Because our relative suffer a heart attack and he need to be operated. He is admitted in the hospital and given first aid etc. But operation to save his life is another story. Deposit first then they will operate.

i am so sorry for your loss bulastika. i believe we have a law for that, you can surf for Pia Cayetano's laws which says that it is unlawful for a hospital to defer treatment to a needy patient.

We have all kind of law. But what the use if a hospital don't follow it? Hospital will just accept you as patient. And only give you emergeny aid. But major operation? If it cost 50K just to put a deposit. Do you think a hospital will operate if you don't make a deposit?
And even if we file a criminal charges then what?
We need to pay for a lawyer.
..
Yeah theirs a public lawyer. But even public lawyer you need to pay them.
Believe me we have done that before. And we spend almost 2,000 just to make sure that public lawyer will appear on court.

My condolences to you and your family. How sad it is that he could have been saved but was not because he did not have enough money. That is just so inhumane. I hope that those who refused will take that guilt to their graves. There are a lot of sad cases like that and the sadder thing is that our public hospitals are so full that sometimes they cannot accomodate enough people. I hope these are the things that would change with the new administration.

Sad to say. I don't see any changes in our government even if theirs a change of administration. If we want change we must removed 90% of our senators, congressman and other politician as well as other public servants. To cut the flow of corrupt and incompetency in our government.

Condolence. You know most of the Hospital in the Philippines are like that. And the worst is if the patient is critical and no money to pay then they won't bother to care to that patient. And some, if they were confine and no money they can't go out to the Hospital until they can't pay.

That is absolutely terrible, I am so sorry for your loss. I did not realize how bad it is for some in other countries. I live in Canada and we have free health care for all, especially emergency care. We pay for some things but hospital stay and care is free unless you want a private room.

I think that's the low of nature. Only the fittest survive. In this case only the wealthy survive. lols. But I hope theirs will be chance soon. Soon theirs no money. Only life. If that will happen. I think their no more capitalist. lols.

That is really immoral for a hospital to do something like that. Nonetheless, he is a human being, how could those people just do nothing and see a severely ill person die without giving a hand to help him out? I just simply don't understand how could some people do something like that, that is inhumane.

That is what we called business and capitalism. Money talks. If you have money you get service if no money then sorry. No money no treatment. You can donate your kidney if you want. lolz..
Lets face it. As long theirs an earning posibility you need to pay for it. Even if your life depends on it.

I'm sorry to hear that, it is one of the biggest problem that any country is facing aside from poverty and crime. I hope this hospital owners will realize that this is not a simple product that everyone would like to repair. This is a life of a human being and it is an emergency, so how can anyone have a money on their pocket at that such a big amount. I am lucky that the hospital where my officemate bring me doesn't need a deposit, they interview me a bit of information and have my papers accomplished and they immediately attended on me. If that time I wasn't attended, then maybe I could die. Doctor's now how first aid is important so they should not look for money first. That hospital should be boycott, does this mean that hospital is for rich people only? This mind thinking is so sick!

Yeah.. they also give first aid to our relative. But since its a heart attack he need to be operated. That is when they ask for a deposit. Becuase first aid is only temporary. They still need to operate him for what ever reason or the cause of his heart attack.
..
For them its just business I think.
