Hmmm.. I beg to differ.
I think there are people who are dumb. Most of which are those people who weren't given the chance to learn or use their brains to do something.
I'm not trying to be rude or anything, though it's difficult to think so.
You see, in all my years teaching, there are just people who I consider 'dim bulbs'. They're the ones who seem to be floating in space. The ones who can't seem to get the point even if you're saying to them literally. It takes them a while to absorb the thoughts and perhaps not really get in at the end of the day.
Most of these students are those who are far pampered by parents. The types of parents or families who can't seem to let go of their kids. The mothers who can't just let their kids fail at something, so they do it themselves.
I'm going to give you an example. I have a student who is really pretty. She has all the gadgets in the world. Dresses well, looks always neat. But when you ask her about somethings: let's say I ask her "Why do you think businesses borrow money?" I mean, that's a question leading you to a guess or an exact answer, right? But instead she'd say "Because they need to borrow money." then I continue "why?", then she'd answer "they just feel like it."
I mean, come on. There are many reasons under the sun. I would even accept it when they'd say "in order to pay off debts."
I think if we don't allow ourselves to think, we'd sooner or later lose the ability to comprehend things. Thus making us dumb. With all the technology in this fast-paced-life, I am worried with our children. I'm guessing that a few years now, we won't even get to remember someone without reading her profile online.
Technology's worst effect is that it has enabled us to be lazy. No longer having the effort to think for ourselves. We rely on what other people say about such things. We rely on the 'comments' and the 'previews'. We have allowed ourselves to be dictated by the media on what is good. We failed to realize that we have personalities and that everyone is unique. That we have brains and common sense to figure out something on our own.
With all these, that is why there really are dumb people. But it isn't too late. There's still hope to get out of such a state.

Haha, I agree. There are some people that are seriously dumb, whether they fake it or they really think what they have said is pretty good or they actually have some disorder.
Well, it is not us to judge them, whatever means, just tolerate them. Maybe there is something inside them that is lacking. Seriously, as we try to observe them, and if we do realize that they are somewhat lacking unpretentiously, then by all means, leave them alone if we do not feel like helping them.
The person looks normal, but unconsciously they scratch your car, steps on your feet and realised that he/she just annoys you. Normally we will just think they are purely annoying and bad kids/individuals, but if we do identify them properly, I think these group of inividuals have some sort of syndrome of hyperactive and uncontrolled behaviour that would need some special guidance. The extend of severity if this behaviour was not corrected and supervised since young ~
