Did anyone else dislike Shadow Hearts: Covenant AND From the New World?

I love this series. I've played every game, including Koudelka. I love the dark atmosphere that was invoked in Shadow Hearts, as well as Koudelka. However, they seem to have taken it away in the last two games, and it was more of a humor/historical fiction RPG than the dark storyline that I love. I won't say I hate them, because the storylines and characters in the games are very well develooped; i just don't like what happened to the overall feel of the series. What do you think? Do you agree or disagree, and why?

I do. I played Covenant first and it's my favorite of the series. I haven't played Koudelka, and I agree with you I didn't like the change of tone especially on From the New World.

I will admit that i played Shadow Hearts and Covenant before playing Koudelka, and then had to wait another year before From the New World was released. I fell for the typical "Oh my God, SEQUEL!" hype, unfortunately. The games had good stories and everything, and the characters were wonderfully portrayed, but I just didn't like the atmosphere in the last two games at all.
Maybe, I'm just not much for comedy. It's a nice series though, and at least all the games have something to tie them together.
