Hi everyone, I would not raise this topic if i dont face this situation twice on last 7days. 4days ago, i was travelling on a local train reading newspaper. Two guys of age 23 - 24 was sitting in front of me. When i completed the newspaper, they asked me for it addressing me uncle. Uncle? I shocked but did not told them anything, just noticed on them. I found that they are not more than 6 years younger then me. At home, i asked my mom that am i looking older than my age ? She said no. Again, today morning, i went for my morning class. After class, i baught a cigerette from a road side shop. The shop keeper was looked like older than my age but addressed me as uncle. So, i could not resist myself and asked him. "do u have children?" "yes" "how many?" "three" "when you got married? "six years ago" "six years and three kids, you are genius my grand father, i am your grand son, not uncle. I am still unmarried" "what?" "just behave yourself" so, have you ever faced such situation? I mean, you are addressed as uncle/aunty, grandfather/mother or etc that you are not supposed to be? How did you react? Share your experience. Thanks in advance.

Hi Shibham, I too faced this kind of situation in public places sometimes.. People just 1-2 yrs younger than me and some times people of my age or even older than me address me aunty.. There is a misconception among people any girl irrespective of age who is married and wearing mangalsutra will be called aunty.. in the begining I used to get angry but now I will be cool and answer them also addressing aunty LOL.. So that they will not do this mistake again..

It sounds odd when people are calling us with "uncle/auntie" when we are not old. Anyway, some people do used to call people they respect/ any strangers they meet as uncle/auntie as they thought "uncle/auntie" is more respectful than "hey you". Anyway, just take it positively or you would make some changes to your appearance/ clothings to reflect those of your actual age. Still, it is not guaranteed that people won't call you "uncle" after that.

hi friend... yes, you are right. i don't think that they use those words to respect someone rather i think that they are hurry to be close to that person and try to flatter them with their kind words. they never know that whatever they are addressing may hurt someone at a time. no. i never want to hide my actual age. have a nice day.

Your feelings are perfectly understandable shibam. :) But I prefer being treated my age. :) I said my age, not older or younger. :) Unfortunately, I have a very childish voice. Because of it people treat me like a younger person, even after meeting me. I get irritated for sure. :)

Gifted.. I dont know if you heard Kamini Kaushal, an actress of yesteryears. I think she was there in Kabhi Khushi, Kabhi Ghum. :) My voice is as awful as hers. :( And Rani Mukherjee's voice is nice - soft and husky. I would trade my voice if she wants mine. :)

Oh I think its very annoying situations. Because sometimes we face this situation. This situation I had never faced in my life when my age person calls me uncle. But I have one friend who faces this many times because many people call him uncle when he hoes anywhere. I think sometimes peoples guess your age from your personality. So sometimes they wrong because they don’t know it is not good to say uncle to other their age person.

well anurag....its really an annoying situation which may lead you to lots of frustrations. i think it never depends on personality rather the caller is unconscious about which word really suit in addressing someone. have a nice day.

No Shiby, that was really witty of you, you know. So what if they address you as uncle. It shows respect, doesn't it? No matter the age. Don't let it get to you. And no, i have never experienced this before, though. I might find it funny if it happens to me. TATA.

well, that's really uncomfortable.but you know what, just think that looks are very deceiving indeed.even me,i'm a girl.but sometimes, people call me "sir" because i'm like a man outside.it may sound funny but it is true.now, dont worry about that, you'll get more mature looking if you keep on thinking about it...

I have experienced the same incident before especially when I go to the wet market to buy vegetables. The old lady greet me politely and asked me what I am looking for but at the end of her sentence she mentioned 'aunty'. That puts me off so I just walk off to another stall. I think many people do not know the real meaning of the word and just blurt it out without thinking twice.

Hi Shibham, I look at your picture here and I looked at your profile which says you are 31. You do not look old at all if that is your picture. In fact you look very young so I can't imagine why people are calling you Uncle. I am now 54 and it has only been in the past 10 yrs that people are calling me Auntie or mom and it is always very young kids. I really don't know, Shibham. I would not take it to heart. You look very young so I don't think you should worry about it.

i will feel something if the person is much older than me.usually others will called me sister than aunty even if they are older than me.sometimes they will called me as little sister even if they are younger than me. it's fine with me as long as they don't call me grandma.

Hi, In my society its kind of respect to call an older man/woman that u dont know uncle/aunty.. u not have to be very old, even if u were young the children will call u ancle/aunty. So, I think its normal thing and I will not be bothered if anyone call me aunty because they are respecting me. I dont know if it is different in yur society??..

hi bentaboha... if you are thinking that they are respecting you by calling aunty, then it runs to your self satisfaction. just tell me, a lady who is more than 5 years older than you and calls you aunty... do you still consider is as a respect? hard to do. have a nice day.

Good morning uncle just kidding! I was really laughing when I saw your post. I would really be angry too if someone call me auntie and they are of my age. Maybe i can accept if I was called auntie by young kids on the street. But people of my age or older, no way! Maybe you need some make over yaar! From clothing to hair style, I don't know but for me, the style of the hair has really something to do with that. Are you getting love handles? meaning big tummy lately? why not trim it down also, am I asking too much? well, I am just suggesting. Peace! Happy Mylotting!

hello dear bhai, Where have you been "uncle" (hahaha) Was it time for you to look for a bride and start your own family my dear bhai? You are not getting younger though,and..let me see the lines in your face. Hmnn,it's getting visible now (hahaha again) Well,it's my daughter who always feels annoyed when we are together. People always says "ohhhh" i thought she's your sister. No one believes she's my daughter (she's 16 and i am 40) Ok,now i hope this "uncle" issue will give you a clear picture that, age is not all about number...it shows (ahahahaha...sorry can't resist my dear) I wish next time you post a topic,it's about your upcoming wedding dear And,never forget your didi here...

Uncle, that some funny story about people calling you uncle lol! :P I'm a female :P so everywhere I go, younger or older, they will call me and older sister. But hold on, I had an ex-workmate that was 10 years older than me, and she called me an older sister, I was quite annoyed because I didn't think I was looking much older than she was. I was honestly pissed, so with a frowning face, I asked her why would she call me an elder sister when she clearly know our age gap?? Guess what her answer was, she said "well, because I'm still single and you are engaged"....ok....hmmm...I didn't know what to say after that.

hi kodukodu.. hahaha.... what an answer. hahaha..which has made you speechless. i think you should say her that does the ages go down after an engagement? give her an advice to engage as soon as possible. there may be an envy mind as well ( may not be but i just guess) have a nice day.
