We all have hectic and busy lives. We struggle holding a down a career and raising a family. We all have many responsibilities and burdens shouldered on us. it can be hard to find the time to eat a proper meal. We rely on a lot of frozen foods to get us through our meal time stress. Do you think there is such a thing as a healthy frozen food? Are we getting the right nutrition from them?

Hi,
From my point of view, frozen food is not that healthy.
If you wanna eat healthy food,it is best to cook yourself, but
due to busy schedule, you may not able to find free time to
cook, therefore dining out is an alternative to get your food after a
tiring day.
You can always take away some fastfood, but don't eat them always, once
awhile is fine.

Thank you for adding your thoghts shia88. Time may be a factor, but we shouldn't let it affect what we eat.

It all depends on the type of frozen food you are talking about. Frozen veggies are better for you than, say, canned. But the pre-packaged frozen meals like TV dinners, etc, I would stay away from. It is better to make up large batches of freezable meals like casseroles and pasta dishes and freeze them, yourself to take out and heat up later.
Also, I prefer to stay away from microwaves as they change the molecular structure of the food (besides not heating evenly) and this makes the food carcinogenic (cancer causing).
About the only frozen food I buy besides the veggies is pizza...but I don't have that too often, anyway, because pizza is not really a very nutritious food to begin with. LOL
Frozen meats are just as good as fresh and I like to buy the hamburger patties and breaded shrimp frozen. I don't like to de-vein shrimp so I'm picky about the type of shrimp I buy.
Want a healthy, quick yummy treat? Make oven fries. We just cut up the potatoes, unpeeled, spray a cookie sheet with cooking spray, put the potatoes on the sheet and spray them with the cooking spray. Then we sprinkle them with Johnny's Seasoning Salt and pop them in the oven at 400degrees for 20-30 minutes. My daughter likes to turn them over halfway through but it's not really necessary. They are so much better than regular fries...low in fat and, with the skins on, higher in fiber. Since we started fixing these yummy things, we have a hard time keeping potatoes in the house!

Eating healthy is the best option for us. in some things, we can find something frozen that is nutritious and appealing. other times, it is better to eat something that is fresh, thank you for adding your views. it is appreciated.

A few years ago I was working with a friend of mine on her magazine and she came across an article on the subject that said this. I trusted the resource and determined to stop using microwaves as much as possible. Sorry I can't remember the source.

If your concerned about eating right, than you could make tv dinners in advance using healthy choices like turkey. I did this after Thanksgiving when we decided to have a turkey a few years ago and there were only two of us that year. I put corn, beans and some baked potato in each dinner.

About the only thing healthy that's frozen would be something like frozen seafood (no breading), various meats, veggies, or fruit IMO. I think it's fine once in a while to serve your family a frozen meal like frozen lasagna or a banquet meal but always make sure to serve with some sort of veggie and milk as a side.

Thanks for responding. It's difficult to know what frozen foods are best. Seafood is a sound choice.

sender people are mistaken in thinking frozen food is not healthy. a lot of fresh produce has sat in various ware houses for hours before gettin to your local grocery store while frozen foods are mostly picked and frozen in just a few hours saving all the vitamins lost in sitting around between trips to various grocery aisles. so yes it is actually sometimes more healthy than produce thats actually older. so rest assured you will get proper nutrition from frozen foods. why people get such screwed up ideas is beyond me

Thank you for responding hatley.. It is appreciated. I don't necessarily think that frozen foods are unhealthy to eat. its all in the process of how we cook the frozen food we have.

it really depends on its type.if it a fastfood type they we better avoid it while if it veggies type , it is far better than we buy fresh but stored it more than a day.and we can't have the same amount of nutrition compare with the fresh one.anyway we should consider the way we cook them too.for me it seems has no different with frozen fastfood with the fresh fried food we cook.

Frozen foods are not unhealthy it just have in general reduced nutritious value but if you pay attention not to get your food infected by some microorganism then frozen food can offer you a good meal. It is always better to eat fresh food but that is not always possible.
