Killing a pest called rat

A rat was caught and drown and i felt terribly sad to see it die just like that. It was just a small one, wished they were killed more instantly using a less torturous method. If there is ever a rat heaven .. i hope it gets all kinds of wire to satisfy its gnawing.
How do you kill a pest like a rat? Do rats entire body is already filled with germs ?

Trapping them with flying paper then just throw in the garbage when the garbage is on its nearby trip. I cant think of any less tortorous method to dispose them. So i do those lol.

I think it is a good idea. But I think that little fellow will just suffocate slowly.. Right better than boiling it, putting it under the sun and what ever method. But seriously if we don't dispose them, they will bring disease to the house. Kind of worried in that matter. Maybe should just get a cat to do the job. Let it be nature's way.
