have you ever gotten scared of responsibility?

i have. i'm not sure if i still am.
when i was younger, i liked it when people asked me to do something for them because i knew that they believed in my capacity to perform the task. i wasn't scared about being class president, or about taking care of an entire page in the school paper. i knew the people who gave me the job trusted my abilities. and i knew i could it. it was a form of praise for me then.
now, i'm just scared... responsibility-averse. i don't know what happened. i was suddenly scared that i would fall short of people's expectations. i probably forgot how to trust myself. has anyone been in a similar situation?

Hello,
I am always scared of responsibility. I think it's quite natural human instinct. It doesn't feel good to disturb a state of peace and move to a new set of actions. Human mind usually opposes to changes especially when it is from a comfortable state to a complicated one. Though I am afraid to take responsibilities it doesn't necessarily mean that I don't take them. I just remind myself about the good things that I am going to get from the act. I just decide to take the responsibility and take it. The rest is done in a process automatically. There is a victory beyond every fear. So it is always worth something. Thanks.
God bless you.

yup, just because we're scared doesn't mean they don't come.
in fact, loads of them do:)
it nice to think that some people still trust you, even when you've already stopped trusting yourself. so yeah, let's go go go~
thanks for the picker-upper:) God bless you too~

You could do things in younger day but now you are scared. How come. Did you face any failure earlier. If you had been doing things successfully there is no reason why you should become diffident.. mainly because of past experience or some one must have pointed out the work was not satisfactory. You be bold.Don't worry about what others say about work. you will regain your confidence.it is only self confidence that makes difference.Self trust is very important. Next time start with full self confidence and with fresh mind .you will definitely succeed...

yes, a number of failures have weakened my self-confidence.
some say, failures make you stronger. i understand that part very well, but they forget to mention how it can also rip off a part of you.
it would be great if i could ignore everybody around me and just go on and try to be fruitful in whatever i do, but that would be like wishing i were deaf.
i'm really working on my self-confidence; picking up pieces of what once were parts of a sturdy self. i'm doing well, i promise.:) thank you.

One thing you should remember that this world is wide and not only the place you live in.Similarly The entire world is work place for you not the four walls in which you are working now.People come and go.You yourself is the entire world for you.Developing self confidence is the only way for your success in life.Be bold.God bless you...

Sometimes being scared to responsibility is normal because to think that it is a big task that we need to carry into our shoulder. And a big expectation that people would look that we can perform very well. There was a time that i feel afraid in a big responsibility and I did once to run away with it. Really i was scared. To handle a big task into my hand is something feeling like i need to be perfect that if something wronged was happen they blame me. And from that point my i begin to fall. And from this i need to restore again my self confidence and trust myself that i can make it again. Thanks and have a nice day!

yes indeed, we are scared of falling short of other people's expectations.
the same thing happened to me.
i was doing well, and people kept me busy with tasks and all. then one day they gave me this job which i thought was too big for me. i honestly told them that i may not be able to do it, but they insisted that i could so i accepted it anyhow. at the end of the day, i failed.
and those people who urged me into jumping never appeared when i needed someone to pick me up.

It's about confidence that gives you fear to face responsibility.
In this life,we had to make choices and decision making and doing such thing we need to be responsible for every action that we might take.
Sometimes we need to make quick decision and we can't even think of any possibility or result that it might give, but still we had to do it.
Greater responsibility means greater opportunities too.

I am not so afraid of responsibility per say, I am however afraid of failing to full fill all responsibilities. I am one that if I take on any given task and or responsibility I will go the full limit to assure I fulfill it to it's fullest capacity.

yeah, i feel the same way.
someone assigns you this task, then you take it on and perform well. the others come to give you other things to do, bringing with them higher expectations based on what you have previously done. they keep coming and coming until you're no longer sure about how much they expect you to succeed. and you're suddenly unsure if their expectations are still within your limits. then you get scared. i got scared.

I have been in an identical situation as you are. When I was a kid, I used to be the number one in class, class president, teacher's pet, envy of the other kids. I was given lots of responsibilities and I accepted them all. It made me feel good about myself. Today, I would never want to become who I was before. I think I may have been given a responsibility so big and I failed that I do not want to be responsible of anything.

well, i wasn't number 1 but i was one of the chosen few. people thought i was a responsible person and they believed that i could handle things well. they even called me 'boss' because they knew that i commanded authority and they recognize it by calling me that. it was good. until i failed. then it wasn't good anymore.

I’m afraid of getting pregnant. I would love to have my own baby now but I still don’t have enough for her/him. So I guess I still have to wait and be careful not to get pregnant. My partner is aware of this and he understands. He’s not ready too. I hope when the time comes, I already have everything for my baby.

I find some people like to take responsibilities for what they do, because very often authority comes with it and they enjoy to have everything under their control. However, I personally would take a humble approach if I have to be responsible for someone or something. For latter is just pure sense of duty and I believe everyone has to learn how to practise it. Instead of sending commands to everyone around you, you are actually making sure everything is on right track.
I won't volunteer to take responsibility as I enjoy working under other's authority more. Nevertheless, if the opportunity comes, I will do my best to prove that I am a reliable person.

good for you~ i can sense that you have self-confidence. and that's a very good thing.^_^
i'm trying to be just like you; to once again learn to confidently take on responsibilities, and to believe in myself and my capabilities. i lost confidence in myself somewhere, and trying to bring it back. i hope i get it soon.
thanks for dropping by:)

I think I'm in a similar situation right now. When I graduated from college, my mom told me that when I find a job, both my parents will retire and they'll count on me to support our family. I don't wanna seem selfish, but that just seems too daunting for me __

oh don't say that...i'll graduate next march and what you said aggravated my fears...
but i guess i'm lucky because i have older brothers to take care of that financial responsibility for me. my worries are really about employment.
those are tough expectations you got there. i bet you'd want to enjoy first before being held responsible for the needs of an entire family, but if it's our parents, we really couldn't say no. hang on and goodluck~

I would agree that when people somehow entrust to us something important, it makes us also feel important, like they believe in us. But one thing I learned is that people will add more expectations on you the more you do well on the responsibilities they give you. There are some who'd just let you do almost all the work because you wer chosen as a leader and I really didn't like that part of being a leader. I didn't like being told that I have the responsibility to do those, to do that, to be this to be that, it wouldn't show on my face but I'd feel the stress so I'm reluctant in taking the responsibility.
But sometimes, when no one takes the job somehow something in me says to start facilitating the group but I always let the others know that I'm not the leader. I've also been a class president, my friends realized that even though i complain a lot i still do the task anyway. I can't do anything about it, I'd be the one in major trouble if we won't be able to do it.

yeah, maybe it would be clearer to say that i am scared of expectations and not of responsibilities per se. it is exactly like what you said, that people expect more and more from you every time you succeed. and sometimes, you doubt whether or not you are indeed capable reaching such expectations.
i actually did the same thing before, telling the people around me that i was working because i saw the need for someone to act and not because i was or wanted to be the leader. but i think that very same excuse led to my loss of self-confidence and trust in myself. i was telling myself and the people around me that i couldn't be a leader even when i was already acting like one. it was like telling myself unconsciously that i could not make myself responsible for it because i did trust my own capabilities. *sigh* (that was a recent revelation)

hmmm.. that may be true too. I'm a lazy bum myself so i guess i never thought of it that way. It's like the more I push away, there are still some that are pushed back at me. I think even if we are afraid and push away the responsibilities, there are those that we just have to face and still keep us a bit confident in ourselves.
i do hope you'd get back your confidence in yourself ^_^.

I find that i tend to shy away from responsibility too, i am scared that i wont live up to certain expectations and on top of that,i really don't feeling rushed or pressured, i prefer to work at my own pace.

Taking responsibilities is sometimes scary but if you have the skill and capability and you believe on yourself and you also do trust that you can handle all the the responsibilities with the help of the Lord then nothing would be impossible to meet.
As for me, I would admit that there would be times that I got a bit scary when given a task which I believe would test my capability but all my fears would vanish as soon as I pray and ask for God's guiding hands.

^_^ yes i believe God has been helping me all along. i wouldn't have been able to go through everything if it wasn't so.
what makes responsibilities scary, for me, are the expectations that go with them. sometimes we get scared about finishing but, at the same time, not being good enough. in the end, it is not God that makes us feel like failures, but the people around us.

Yes sometimes I scared about responsibilities. But when I feel this situation then I think there are also many persons who have many responsibilities and always they bear their responsibilities so how can I scared about this. Because I have no more responsibilities. Only some responsibilities are on me but very lesser. So now I think it is not good to fear about responsibilities.

I think I am the same way.
Just too much life, too soon. The daily rigors of responsibility and problems often weigh down on me, that I go thinking that I'd rather not have these responsibilities in the first place.
But, I am stuck where I am now, so I think I've also developed a responsibility-phobia.
