The more time we spend learning about the individuals we encounter throughout our lives, the more open-minded we become. Every person on earth comes from a unique background and has their own take on the proper way to live life, so we can learn much about the wide variety of beliefs and opinions embraced by humanity by simply engaging others in friendly conversation. It is through dialogue that we are exposed to new ideas, and while we may not choose to incorporate these ideas into our own lives, these foreign notions nonetheless expand our horizons. As we exchange thoughts and feelings, we can acknowledge and accept a wide variety of views. As we ask others about their lives we will come to see humanity's diversity in a new and more positive light.

Yes, I agree, learning about different cultures is important to not only for us to learn, but to understand people who are not like us..Just got to be careful, don't want it opened so much that what isn't good infiltrates.

Hi carmelanirel, I think we really need to learn about other cultures today as the world has gotten so much smaller. I think too that children should be taught to speak several different languages whenever possible. Religion too plays such a big part in the lives of many, if only we would all agree to read the holy books of all religions. No one should be encouraged to change their beliefs, but I bet we would understand and respect each other a lot better. Thank for for responding to this discussion. Blessings.

I'd love to read some other religious books, but am not fluent in any other language, though I haven't tried, just something I can't grasp. In fact one of my optional courses I'll be taking will be on the history of the mid-east, talk about different culture..lol But I hope this will help me for when I write my second book..
As for encouraging another to change their beliefs, I'd have to disagree. Not that I push my beliefs on anyone, but I would encourage what I believe and talk about it. If someone tells me about theirs that I don't agree with, I let them know I don't agree, and then pray, only G♥d can take care of the rest.

I like being with these types of people. Being an open-minded person can take you anywhere and be with whoever without problems. If there are things you dislike, you can learn from it and try again. I met a lot of people and I only have one close friend. She’s not that open-minded as I am but she rocks. She’s the person you take anywhere. We’ve been friends for years and we already know the worst and best about each other.

I try to keep an open mind and continue to listen searching for something I can learn even if I don't agree. But there are times when I just don't want to waste my time. Certian sales persons and politicians are not worth listening to. This doesn't make them bad people just not who I want in my life.

Nice discussion Pose123. I think we can say that the more open minded we become. the more maturity comes into our thinking and behavior. There was a time when we lived like a frog in the pond who thinks that world is just as big as his pond. But today with coming of TV, PC, mobiles, Internet and better education systems, world seems to be shrinking day by day and we are becoming familiar with all kinds of people in the world, with different languages, culture, thinking etc etc.......and somehow, what we felt was wrong in the past now does not look so bad to us.......our thinking obviously changes as we open our mind and start looking at things with our positive attitude.I think Open mind creates less problems and gives more peace.

Yeah, I do agree with you. Having an open mind is important for us. You see, the world is becoming smaller now. Each day you may meet people from all over the world with various culture backgrounds. And there may be many crushed between them. With an open mind, we can accept a wide range of views and get along with other better. Besides, it's good to absorb diversed culture.

Hi Pose,
So true! I have always been exposed to a variety of people from different backgrounds so the differences in others have always been amusing and interesting to me...if I even noticed. My dad taught emotionally challenged kids when I was a kid and thise kids were at our home a lot. Looking back, they were all very unique people but I didn't think much about it at all when I was around them all the time. A good friend of mine was mentally retarded and I didn't think of him as retarded. I was 6 and he was just my buddy. My mom's friend whose kids I babysat for, left her husband for another woman. I was 12. It was a shock of course but it didn't change who she was. I think our parents have a lot to do with how accepting we are of diversity...that and being exposed to it..=

Hi sid, I like your attitude and it's clear that you had a good upbringing. I think you were very fortunate to have those emotionally challenged kids in your life. As for your mother's friend, who left her husband for another woman, I agree with you there too, it didn't change who she was. I wish there were more people in the world who thought as you do. Blessings.

Pose-
One thing I love about you is your optimism for humanity. I agree that this should be the pattern as we age and become more experienced with the world. The sad reality is that some people do not do this. Some people cling to their beliefs, realities, and perceptions of the world around them and refuse change.
My husband and I have been speaking on this a lot recently with all that has been in the news, etc. We have hope for humanity, but at times we have to wonder just how long it will take some people to make this change.
I admit, I have my own 'isms', and they are things I try to work on daily. One can hope that others do the same as well.

Hi Anora, Thank you for those comments and I do have hope for humanity. I see more compassion and a greater willingness to accept change. Most of the young people of today are not the villains that they are made out to be and it's very important to teach our children to have an open mind towards those of other cultures and religious beliefs. While I know many older people don't want to accept change, it's easy to see that the old ways haven't worked very well. Tolerance doesn't mean that we have to give up on our own belief systems, it just means that we respect others. I don't think that the generation growing up today will have the attitude towards those who look or act differently from themselves that their grandparents had. Blessings.

I think that keeping an open mind is the key to a great many number of things, including one thing that people often do not connect it with, and that is forgiveness. I believe that keeping an open mind is also the key to finding love and light, as well as to self acceptance.

We should always try to keep an open mind. So much can be learned by doing this. We can gain as much from others as they can from us when we have an open mind to the world.

I enjoy conversing with open-minded people! They are accessible to new ideas and instinctively understand that all things on this plane are relevant. They will tell you tha," are all relevant terms that can, and often do, mean the same thing. Life itself is all about swimming with the tide, going with the flow, and blowing in the wind. Let it all hang out and Remember,
This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.
Farewell; my blessing season this in thee!

Yes, you made some really neat points. I'm not sure what precisely to respond to in this discussion as you have pretty much summed up everything in a paragraph. If I must add, open-mindedness as well nurtures globalization and religious tolerance among the masses which plays a decisive role in the healthy functioning of any society.

Hello Pose,
Precisely,we learn something from the people around us,from our loved ones.
And in our day to day life,in every situation that we dealt with.
To have an open mind is, we need to empty our minds with all the knowledge that we've learned in order to contain the new knowledge and absorb the new learning.
Have a good day always

Hi jaiho, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. We must always be open to to new ideas and realize that nothing is set in stone. It does not mean that we will necessarily adopt these new ideas ourselves, but we should always respect the rights of others. Blessings.

Hello Pose123! I'm a very traditionalist humman being..and because i'm like that i'm very selective and everithing that is new bring suspicions for me. this doesn't mean that i do not like to try new stuff like food, or drinks, or that i do not accept people who have diffrent lifestyle! I just like to have that little something that belongs to me, and my country and preserve it :)

yes every one in this world is unique. i had read in some journal that even the twins have probability of 1 in a million that they will be same through out the life and will have same thinking.
actually more we interact with others and the more we know others and understand them the more experienced we becomes and the more we are modeled. harsh and hard situations also tend to make us more strong and open minded and enhance our ability to survive in more tougher conditions. actually we gain experience through all this and that is why practice plays an important role in our life.
that is also the reason that traveling make us more open minded and teaches us how to interact with people.
and most important thing how we think makes the greatest impression in our life and thinking (positive thinking) is enhanced by open mindedness.
