If You Wrote A Book What Would It Be About?

I once had a "Composition" of mine read out in class by the teacher when I was about 10 years old. It was about two bikes in a shop waiting for someone to come in and buy them..that's the only thing I remember about it. I was sat squirming in my seat because it was a long story and pupils around me kept looking round at me going, "Oooh!" and "Aaah" at my amazing imagination. All I could do was blush!
Anyway, this teacher Mr Padmore always said that I could be a writer, either as a journalist or constructing novels. Unfortunately, I was cr*p at shorthand so the journalism idea soon went out the window..but writing?
Hmm, I dunno. What could I write about? I have no children so..if I wrote a kids' story I have none to read it to although my imagination is such that I could give Rowling a run for her considerable amount of money!
Apparently, no-one really knows what the Harry Potter books are all about and the cheeky bint is thinking about writing another one after saying she wasn't going to. Obviously hasn't got the imagination to come up with anything else!
Haha! Were there goblins in the Tolkien books (the best of all time but the films weren't in the right order so I refuse to watch them) as I know all about those..hiding under beds and generally creating havoc around the home.
Mum's imagination is even wilder than mine. Can you imagine a mother/daughter collaboration?
Haha! That would be something!
How about you? Do you fancy writing a book?

If I wrote a book it would probably be an adventure style of book that was a rip off of Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter. I don't think I have that much of an imagination, so Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter would probably influence my style the most as those two series are the ones that have captured my imagination the most over the years I think. They are both absolutely brilliantly written and the types of books that you cannot put down and often daydream about during the day while you are reading them of a night.
The LOTR movies were brilliant I thought, although I always thought that they should have made The Hobbit first, but apparently they could not get the rights to it at the time, so they just went straight into the LOTR trilogy instead. You should watch them. I saw them all on the first day they were released at the cinemas.
I have read all of the Potter books and seen all movies so far. We are all fans in this house and are looking forward to the next movie which comes out next month here!

Oh lord I have given it many thoughts throughout my entire life as I have lived enough that I could certainly share a bunch. Although I do not think there would be enough paper on earth that can hold the entire story of my life.
It has been quite a life friend as for some reason I have been made to be tested since the day I was born.

Have you kept diaries like me? Get 'em published I say!

It may be a form of therapy to get it all down. I find that my diaries, in particular help when I've had a bad day. Once I've written down what I feel I can (usually) go to sleep with a weight off my mind. Blogs don't have the same effect (for me at any rate) but I guess I'm hooked on writing for the last 39 years lol.

I would be writing a book of poetry, or children's stories. I actually have a short story poem for Christmas already written, but I need to get the illustrations done. It would be suitable for the little kids at church. I do not think I have the attention span to finish a novel.

If I can think of a way to do it, I will. Otherwise I will post it elsewhere with a link. I do have to do the illustrations, and that is where I am very weal. It is just a little preschool level poem/story.

Yeah there were goblins in the Tolkein books. In the Hobbit, they called the orcs goblins. I watched the movies. They didn't do a bad job with them.
Funny fambly stories... Sure I can picture a mother/daughter collaboration. But Dearra would be correcting me every 5 seconds.

LOL! It's a shame the Hobbit film seems to be on hold at the moment because I, for one, want to watch the films in the order the books were written. I refuse to watch them until they're all made, stubborn fool that I am!

Do you know it's quite funny, at school one of my worst subjects was English and I detested anything to do with the subject. So much so that at the embarassing age of 28 I still struggled with knowing things such as which 'there' and 'their' to use and 'to' and 'too'. Yet here I am now in my late 30s and I spend my days writing reviews and articles, something I would have never considered doing.
I think if I was ever to write a book it would be something factual and to do with cinema in one way or another. Probably a history of British cinema or biographies of prominent stars from yesteryear. Strangely for someone who spends so much time watching movies I have an absolutely terrible imagination and could never write anything that I made up.

I'm so pleased you persevered with your English. It just goes to show we can do anything once we put our minds to it.
Could that happen with my Maths? Er, probably not. Unlikely to be like awesome Hawking anytime soon!
Go on..write your book. You know you want to.

Thanks for the support angelic123. Funnily enough, many of my jobs have involved figures..but it was all on the PC so I didn't have to work anything out, apart from VAT on occasion!

Hello,
If I wrote a book it would be about India or, at least some parts of India. I wasn't always like this. There was a time when the corruption, financial instability etc made India extremely detestable to me. I wanted to escape from it. The feeling was bit suffocating. Then I suddenly I started to read about my own country. Everything started with reading Gita, the holy book. I read it over and over again and it seemed quite enchanting. The more I read the more I wanted to read. At the same time a change took place within me. Being quite unaware about it all, I started taking interest in the affairs of my country. I started to study it more intensively and had opinions about everything. Then suddenly, one day, I felt patriotism inside. I started to appreciate the very essence of Indian culture. A revolution began in me. I fell in love with my own country. I never knew I loved my country so much. It was just the resentment that has been predominant all the time. Under this there was a vast ocean of nationalism. I kinda dug it out. Now I want to write a book on my country.
Thanks.
God bless you.

No dear. I once used to think that I have nothing more to know about India. But now I feel like there is so many things to learn that even an entire life may not suffice. I think it's too early. I'll make some research which may last for 20 long years and then I'll finally be able to write something concrete about it.

I have a very scary story or two dancing around in my mind. I have always wanted to write it but to be honest..there was never enough and the years feed that story..lol...I don't know if I will ever share it but my dream was that story and having it published. I thought biography but I am too private for that..lol.

I am thinking about this.
My mind is going towards personal development for 2-10 year olds. Kind of like a think and grow rich book series for children, where all the stories are about a young boy, and the way he thinks helping him make it through issues...Why his name is even Luca Lovechild.
Having the stories miraculously form in my head is a touch more difficult though, but I am giving it some time each day.
Sincerely and With Appreciation.

I think about stuff all the time. This is why MyLot has been very good for me. Before I came here it was all churning about my head, not going anywhere, so at least I have an outlet for it and the added bonus that people actually read what I write, which is the most amazing part. When I first started I was dreading no-one responding and when people started to actually welcome me here, I was elated!
Unfortunately, my thoughts don't follow a pattern as such, so, unless I called the book "My Ramblings" or something, I wouldn't be able to get away with it in book land!

Hello, Janey. I write almost every day of my life, but I can't see me ever writing a book. I prefer writing non-fiction, so if I ever did do a book, it would be about something I'm really interested in.
When I did my two degrees as a mature student, I wrote dissertations on Shakespeare - the first one was about the History Plays, and the second about British and American film adaptations of the plays over the years. I enjoyed the writing and research immensely, and my tutor told me it was good enough for publication.
I was even approached to deliver a paper at the Shakespeare Convention in Stratford on Avon, but I chickened out, as I thought all those Shakespeare scholars would think I was just some know-it-all who thought they knew about Shakespeare. I've always regretted not taking up the invitation, and if I was asked again, I'd do it, but I think the time for that has assed now.
After years of trying, I've now become an 'overnight success' with my writing. I'm not in J. K. Rowling's league, but I'm earning a respectable sum and getting a lot of positive feedback, so I'll stick with the winning formula now.

Don't worry about the typo, I do 'em, all the time..and I knew what you meant too, which is the main thing.
Ever since I started reading your replies Sandra I've always known you could write (not that I'm an expert on the subject) I just had a gut feeling..and I'm so pleased you are doing well my friend.
Good for you!

I like Horror, serial killer books, and ghosts.
I guess I could make a good story based on my likes.
Right now, I am writing my first book and I plan to get it published soon. I'll I can say is that it has a little bit of everything and is violent.
I love kids but there's no way I could write a child's book, I don't think like a kid and I can be violent when I write

Sounds awesome! Personally, I like horror books with a plot, you know what I mean? Also, thrillers are good too as they can be transferred very well onto film and scare people all over again lol.
Good luck with your book.

Thank you! I'm much better at writing about myself (which is understandable as I'm an Aries which is all about "me") but anything else other than family I struggle with. In fact, I have often thought about going down the "Astrology" route but so have a whole load of other people too!

I don't know if I'll ever write a book or not. I'd love to, but I don't think I have the attention span to actually finish a book! I'm thinking about writing children's stories, because they're short and sweet! I have a bunch of nieces and nephews, so I'd have the audience! Who knows? Maybe someday I'll write a book. :)

You could test your children's book out on your nephews and nieces couldn't you? Or in a school or something. I love it when the little ones sit cross-legged on the floor, it's very sweet.
Go for it my friend! What have you got to lose? Oh, and kids are very good judges too aren't they? I know I was when I was a kid. Tolkien was my favourite, followed closely by Richard Adams.
Short stories sounds good to me!

I love writing. I used to write short stories for my nieces and nephews when they have project for school. I wrote lots of Love poems. But writing book or novels? I don't know. It is a bit complicated for me but sometimes it comes across my mind during sleepless night. I am imagining a plot for my story. But after I wake up in the morning I already forget the plot.

I'd love to write something that people would find entertaining and/or useful. But I can't really think of anything I could write well about. I do have a pretty good imagination but I lack focus and direction- it's hard for me to dedicate myself to a project, esspecially since you never know whether it'll turn out good or not. There are so many books already out there as well.
But if I managed to get by all the issues with the actual writing, I'd probably decide on a children's book. Something that is funny and has a good message. And probably about animals, I love animals and animal characters.

I love animals too and it would be fun writing about them for children..in storytelling form..you know, cats on adventures, that type of thing.
