Atlast India is showing some improvements in the sporting arena by winning 5 gold medals on the second day of the Common Wealth Games being held in New Delhi. The first 2 golds came from the shooting & the other 3 in wrestling. Can India sustain the momentum & win more golds?Which events do you think India can win more golds?

hi krupesh I think being the host India might be moved to go ahead and win as its in their home court for one thing and that always helps most teams in any sport to be on home ground. Hope so for all my Indian friends here.

I expect India to do better than they normally do seeing as the games are held in India, but I do not think that any country will beat Australia in the medal count. Australia have been strong in the pool and cycling so far as expected but I am sure they will pick up some surprise medals as well. India will too no doubt. I think the host nation usually performs better for three main reasons. 1. They are used to the climate and do not have to travel far to get there. 2. The host country can usually send more athletes to the games that they normally would due to the cheaper cost of not having to travel. 3. The support of the fans, the crowd support at the events would bolster their confidence for sure. GO AUSSIES!

I have to agree with all your points. We as Indians dont expect India to do well in international competitions like these as we have seen the performance in the past. They release lots of funds to train , to get the equipments & the like but almost entire money goes into the pockets of the corrupt politicians or officials. So the sportpersons are deprived of the best facilities which inturn makes their standard poor compared to other nations.Thats why we always feel Indians dont perform well except for some individuals.

The other sad thing about the games is that the Aussie team (I am not sure if this is the same for other countries) are not allowed to go out into the city and become tourists so the locals are not getting their spending money that they brought with them to buy souvenirs of India. This is money that locals are missing out on. But on a brighter note, because of this, some Aussie competitors are getting together and collecting some money from everyone in the village to distribute among the poor people that are constantly begging outside the village. I thought that this was a nice thing to do.

Usually the host country will show some superiority over their opponents. I can see your country is doing well by grabbing more golds.

Why is it so? I mean winning more medals being host countries? The level of the performance will be the same whether they are participating in the host nation or otherwise. Is it because of the support of the crowd?

Its because host country is able to choose few of optional sports in which it is good at .. like one is wrestling, its optional and host has to decide which optional games to be included. It was not in last commonwealth games.. and probably will not in next one as well.

Dear friend, I am sure India can do better if they are coached better, cared better, given all facilities and better support from the government side. Those who got medals here are well trained mostly with good coaches. I feel this would have been continued in the Olympic games too.

Hi, India has bagged up some gold medals so far in the COMMON WEALTH GAMES.They have bagged Gold medals in different areas. An interesting fact was that India have won a bronze medal in Gymnastics. It was a big achievement for Ashish Kumar who bagged a bronze medal in gymnastics. He also made the country proud of him.India have won some gold medals in Wrestling and Shooting. In tennis they disappointed us.Only we got a bronze medal and a silver medal.Let's wait for the upcoming matches and see whether they could bag more gold medals

India will not be able to catch australia, but lets try to be at no:2, as the english are overtaking us. it will be a big thing even if we finish at no:2

Hi krupesh, Obviously India got more gold medals now. But if you ask me to guess I can’t really do it. Anyway I am happy with the progress and success of games. I am happy with the achievement of India as a host country. Delhi people are suffering in the name of Games as in road one lane is reserved for CWG vehicles only. Traffic people are everywhere to make sure the smooth running of CWG vehicles. There is much traffic blocks in road for common people. Prices of vegetables shoot up; vegetable vendors are saying the vehicles (carrying vegetables) are not coming due to CWG restrictions.
