diagnosis for pcos

I had a softball size tumor on my left ovary. I had both of these removed in April of this year. They said I had several small cysts that showed on the uterus as well. None of this was cancer. When I was released from the hospital, the started me on metformin...500 mg in the morn and 500 mg in the evening. They said I had pcos. I just wondered how they can actually tell that a woman has this. Is there something in the blood work that shows it or do they just go by the fact that there were cysts?

Hi sissy, Its not really the blood sample only even the experienced physician just by certain close diagnosis can easily mark it out whether its a Polycystic Ovary Syndrome,or normal benine tumor.Being myself as a layman on the field of Medicine, it is better for all of us to consult a physician before taking an appropriate steps to deal with,hopefully there are many good Doctors who can help you out even on the platform of mylot itself. well, I know there is nor was there any cancer with these tumors. The doc did tell me that I was symptomatic to pcos so he did give me the metformin. I have had no stomach upset at all with this and I have read that alot of folks do. I have lost some weight tho since April, its been a slow process because I havent really been working at it, but the weight is coming off. I do not notice any change in how I feel or anything but then again i didnt even know that I had that large tumor. The docs actually found it by accident when I was having a ct scan done on my kidney.
