Atom processors are only for notebooks as you don't suppose to play any games on it.Go for core2duo or i3 if you are building for gaming.
...happy to help...

Atom processors are meant only for light use like in Netbooks and basic pc primarily used for 24/7 downloading,Word processing or other light task.
You cant play moderate/heavy games on Atom processor. Also, Atom processor is unable to play HD Video content.
So, if you are making a pc just for 24/7 downloading or listening music or web browsing, then only go for Atom.
If you want to play games and watching HD movies on it, then Intel Core processor are the best for this task. The are built to support heavy work.
And i think Atom processor's socket size differs with Intel Core processor series. So, if you buy Atom today, then in future, you have to upgrade your motherboard too for new processor.

I think both processors are very good. But mostly persons prefer Intel core processor. Because it is in very cheap prices and also everyone can afford it. I think Intel core processor is used by many person. I am also used this processor in my CPU. So I think it is good.
