i love mystery books. my favorite is classical agatha christie. i also like mary higgins clark but i am getting tire of her. i tried james patterson once and didn't like it much. steven king seems to be too gruesome. too much police investigation also bores me. i like psychological twisted stories. also i prefer some stories focus on a few characters other than too many roles being involved. any recommendations?

Here are my recents faves: Tana French Gillian Flynn Sophie Hannah They are a bit more thrillers than mysteries, but quality writing and the 'mystery' in the book is so entangled and the character development is wonderful.

Have you read Harlan Coben yet? If you haven't, I really recommend his books, they are great. He is by far the best modern mystery writer I think!

I like "The Cat Who..." mysteries by Lilian Jackson Braun. I also like Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfeld mysteries. I think Stuart Kaminsky's Toby Peters books are fun and often funny. Have you tried those "Alphabet" mysteries or Janet Evanovich's "Numbers" books?

I honestly just gave James Patterson a try and LOVE him!! I'm currently reading one of his new books called Private. I've read a couple of others though too that I've enjoyed. Maybe give him another try? I love that his chapters are short and I feel like his books always start off with action. I hate when I have to read 1/2 of a book just to get anywhere. Oh and check out Kate Pepper! I love her books!!

I think you and my mom would get along well. She also likes works of Mary Higgins Clark, Agatha Christi, and James Patterson. I also love their books and my mom has a wide variety of books of mystery/thriller genre. She's currently reading Andrew Gross. She also has Mary Jane Clark and Carol Higgins Clark. I've read all the books my mom has. And they're all pretty cool. I suggest you try reading Andrew Gross, his books are decent.
