There can be so many things of attraction when visiting a place one has not been to. Towns and cities in countries around the world can have unique places of attraction for tourists. Do you go with a tour group when visiting a new place ? The tour guides know very well where to take tourists to ? That's the advantage. But, some tourists prefer going around by themselves. What is your preference ?

I love to travel with a tour group because I can talk to everyone and I will be guided much more than I travel alone. Travelling with a tour is safer and cheaper.

I see. Yeah, some people prefer going with a tour group. That is a good way especially when visiting a totally unfamiliar place. Language can be a factor.

No. Its more fun to travel around a place without tour group. The new experience and the sense of adventure is awesome :D

Yes, that's right. That's why visitors often choose to travel around on their own. That is more exciting in a way, just using a map as a guide.

I love travelling. And yes I will be going with a tour group for visiting. I think there are many tour groups who always invite peoples for tours in cheap rates. So I want to go if I get a chance.

I have always opted for package tours. The tour conductors take care of everything from booking the package to sight seeing. And while on tour we have someone monitoring. We are put up in 5 star hotels which would not be a possibility if we went on our own. The tour conductors also know the best places that one should visit. There is also an option to extend and stay back and do whatever one wants to do on their own too.

I have been with tour groups on a number of visits. No doubt, tour guides are very professional and have lots of knowledge about the places of attraction.

Some prefer touring around by themselves. That has the freedom to choose places, of course.

I like to do a little of both. Going on a tour can save a tremendous amount of time to hear the history and see the highlights of a city. Traveling out of country this is especially true, but even within ones own country it can be beneficial. I have visited San Fran a number of times and one of those times we took a city tour. I was amazed at all the new trivia I learned from the tour guide. In Europe I think a tour is extremely important if you want to get an overview of the cities. I also like to read the history and info about the cultures, but a tour guide has a lot to offer too.

Yes, I do see the point. Tour guides have a lot of knowledge about the places of attraction. It is , in some places, worthwhile to pay the fee for the tour, considering how much one can learn in a short period of time.

I found it very helpful..for example my daughter had a lay over in Amsterdamn for just 2 days. We took a day tour of the city and surrounding area to the North Sea and then a canal cruise..plus we stayed in a hotel in central downtown and walked around..I feel we saw quite a lot in a very short time.

I am an independent traveler and so I liked to travel on my own with a travel guide book when I was younger. These days I travel with my disabled toddler son and baby daughter. I only go on a tour in a destination when there is a lack of public transport. Like I went on a two day tour of Kangaroo Island. I saw so many animals and the group were friendly backpackers from many different countries. When I was in Romania I did a day tour to two castles that were really lovely. I liked doing a tour around the Sound of Music route when I was in Austria. I do join a walking tour sometimes. Like I did a morning walk around Tikal National Park in Guatemala. The guide knew such interesting things about the plants, animals and Mayan ruins. I explored Europe on my own and then I could spend as long as I liked in each place. I wouldn't like to join an organized tour because I am so independently minded. Independent traveling is cheaper than going with a tour group.

Hi Maxi. How are you today ? You have been to many places and have lots of experience traveling to foreign countries. That certainly makes you feel quite comfortable touring around on your own.

Hi Greenline, it depends. If we are going to a more structured/modern country (with efficient infrastructure and easy communication) like Hongkong, Australia or US, we would prefer to go by ourselves, where we can explore/visit the places we are interested in. However, if it's a country that we're unsure about language, travelling and other stuff, we would prefer to join a tour group.

Yes, that's right. I fully agree with you. It does depend a lot on which place one is visiting and which places one wishes to see. There are advantages and disadvantages in going with tour groups.

I have tried both things, but I prefer to plan my own trips because I have more freedom that way and I am able to plan my own itinerary. If there is a place that I don't like much I can leave early and go somewhere else and if there is a place that I really like I can stay a bit longer since I don't have to follow a group. Sometimes I also find it hard to find a tour group which includes the exactly the places that I want to visit. I am going to visit Asia soon and there are many package tours where you visit Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, but there are few package tours you can visit those countries and Thailand as well. We have chosen to plan our own trip and that way we have been able to get the combination of countries that we prefer.

I like wandering around on my own. I would go with a tourguide one day if I knew I would get to wander around the next. I just think that you don't have enough time to enjoy the things you like if your obligated to a group. There is the good thing that they can keep you in the safer parts of town though.

Helo Jen. Nice to see you. Yes, that's right. There are advantages and disadvantages in going with tour groups. I suppose it depends on the places to see as to whether one should go with a tour group or not, right ?

I used to travel with tour groups but I just can't afford it these days. I believe this is the best way to travel, though, because like you said, guides know where to take tourists. You also don't have to worry about getting lost when you travel with a tour group.

Hello Cyrus. How are you ? Yeah, those are the advantages of going with a tour group. It is possible to see a number of places in a short period of time. It is a good way when one does not have much time.

I think joining a tour group is ideal when u go to a place for the first time. But i like independence so I usually limit it to a half day or whole day tour then I spend most of my vacation exploring on my own. The beauty of guided tours is that u dont just take pictures r read the landmark description. You actually learn about the attraction's value or history and you appreciate it more. When the destination is completely unknown to you, it helps to have a guide to tell u where to go. Ive arranged so many trips on my own and it's hard to book hotels and schedule itineraries when you dont know which one would cater to your own preferences. whether the hotel location is convenient and how easy it is to go around. But Im no travel expert so I guess eventually, I will be able to find an effective way to research and plan my trips without using tour guides

I fully agree with what you are saying. A lot depends on which city or locality one will be visiting and touring around. Tour guides can be very helpful for some destinations.

I have never visited a new place with a tour group. i have more fun on my own. i like to make my own discoveries about a new place. tour groups only let you see what they want you to see.

I see what you mean. There are advantages and disadvantages going with tour groups. Lack of freedom is a disadvantage, indeed.
