I really didn't think it would happen.

Well, I was the first person he told. I called my dad when I estimated he would be finished in the doctor's office, and I caught him coming out of the hospital. I said, so what did the biopsy results says. He said, "I have prostate cancer." So you may remember a post earlier this week when I told you guys my 51 year old mom had been dealing with Ahlzeimer's (spelling?), I posted late last night about my dad getting biopsy results today. He had the biopsy last week. We didn't expect anything bad. A couple of years ago he had a prostate biopsy, and they said he didn't have cancer. The doctor now says he thinks that other doctor just missed it. We don't know what stage it is. He is having further tests next Tuesday. He is in great spirits. I mean if you know my dad, he is never in anything but a positive mood. My mom is upset of course, but taking it better than I would have thought someone would who is dealing with her disease. So I guess we're just going to take it one day at a time. He has got a lot family and friends who will be praying, and I would ask that those of you who pray would include him in your prayers. My dad's name is Dennis, and he's a wonderful man. Whatever happens, we'll deal with it. But we're going to stay positive, and we're going to do everything we can to keep my dad's spirits okay. He's 55, has a huge family, and no one in his family has ever had cancer of the prostate. You never know. So if anybody out there is needing a mammogram or a colonoscopy, but is putting it off...please find a way to have the test done. There are places who will do the tests for free. It may be hard to find, but just please find a way.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad, AmbiePam. My uncle also had prostate cancer last year and we were all worried for him. He had an operation and thankfully it was successful and he is now cancer-free. I am praying that the same results will also happen with your dad. Be strong, and have faith.

Oh Ambie, I am so sorry, but you know, maybe the test was wrong this time and not the other time or a miracle is in store. I have heard where people were diagnosed and when the doctor went to do more tests, they couldn't find anything. I will pray for G♥d's will, this is something that only He knows the outcome, and whatever happens, I will be here for you..

Prostate cancer is very slow moving. I am sorry to hear, however, that he has this diagnosis. It is good to stay positive. It sounds as if you are going to be the main support person for both of your family members. We will be praying for you. Let us know what you need.

I don't know what to say AmbiePam...my healing thoughts and prayers go to your Dad. At least he is in good spirits which is good news. At times like this one's spirits and positive attitude is needed that one can beat cancer--sounds like your Dad has the survivor spirit (((((((((((hugs)))))))))))

Whoa! What horrible news... your family seems to have a bad luck cloud looming overhead. So what can they do for prostate cancer, if anything?

They can remove the prostate. But if it has spread outside the prostate, it's hard to get rid of it. In his case, it is in the entire left side of his prostate. If it is confined to just that, I think they'll just remove his prostate. I imagine he'd have to have chemo as well. If it has spread, that's bad news. And it would be a big fight, but one we are all prepared for. Tuesday we should find out if it has spread, and what stage it is. I just don't want it to be stage 4.

I am so sorry for the bad times you and your family have been experiencing lately with your Mom (very, very sad story) and now your Dad. I would get a second opinion to make sure. My prayers are with you and your family.

Thank you. : ) I'm not sure if he needs to get a second opinion just because the doctor said it is in the entire left side of his prostate. I assume that's pretty definite. But he has to have a CT scan and bone scan Tuesday to see if it spread outside of his prostate, so if his first doctor was wrong, I would think this one would catch the mistake. I'm just hoping it disappears. Miracles and all. : )

Peace be upon all, I will definitely pray for your father's health, my friend. I think that's good for him to be in high spirit, and you must support him together with your family. The only thing to remind him is to take care of his health, or to tell him what he should or should not do according to doctor's recommendation. Again, believe that God knows the best for all of us, including your father's destiny. High support from me...

Oh, Pam I am sorry about your Dad’s condition, I will surely including him in my prayers. Your post is a very useful one for the fact that it is reminding everyone to be tested for cancer on a regular basis. I’ve been having mammograms and pap smears done every two years since I turned forty and I usually dread the results but have been lucky so far aside from a couple of scares. I sincerely hope all will be okay with your father, please keep us posted and hang in there. I will keep the prayers up for you and your family.

Supposedly the Lord does not dish out more than you can handle. Sometimes, and this sounds like one of them, He's skating just a bit too close to the edge. I'm so sorry to heard all the stuff you're dealing with, worse because it's with both parents. I will pray for all of you going through this, for strength, love and hope. I will also pray that treatments are available and will be successful. Great strides in both diseases have been made in the last few decades, and hopefully many more are coming. Hugs!
