Wiping Your Face With Your First Period Blood

I know! Sounds gross right? But I must tell you that a lot of girls in my country have done this. It's kind of like a superstitious belief that when you wipe your face with your first period blood, you wouldn't have any acnes or pimples during your puberty stage and perhaps the rest your life. I know some of you Filipino Lotter ladies can relate to what I'm saying. For the record, I've never done this. My parents weren't really the superstitious type and neither am I. I never really believe in superstitions except if they have some scientific explanation or something. So I had never wiped my face with my first period blood. And so far, I didn't really suffer from any acnes or pimples during my puberty and even until now except for one or two zits at some point in time or another, especially when I don't have enough sleep or I have eaten a lot of fatty foods in a single sitting. However, I do know some of my friends and classmates in grade school and high school who have done this. They said that it was kind of like a tradition to all the girls in their family. I can only remember two of them having flawless skin in the face though. Anyhoo, I'm just curious if any of you Lotter ladies have done this? And if so, did it really prevented you from having acnes/pimples? Just curious. I'm kind of fascinated with this odd old practice, maybe it has some kind of scientific explanation?

aw never heard that before^^ im not filipina and in my countr we dont have that superstition^^ and my filipino friends online never told me about this^^ anyway my sis told me a story long ago about a woman that killed virgin girls and had bath in their blood to look young forever. so maybe blood does something good to our skin i dont know :) maybe thats why in pinas you wipe your face with blood of first period. at least is better than killing virgin girls like that woman did :( anyway im happy that you never suffered from acne till now^^ i guess that depends of the kind of skin you have^^ and not bcs superstitions but who knows^^

Hmmm, you actually gave me some new insights into how this superstition came up. Maybe, it originated from some kind of witchcraft, like that woman who'd kill virgin girls and bathe in their blood to look young. And maybe, one woman in my country a long time ago, also wanted to look young but didn't want to kill virgin girls, so maybe she got an idea of just using the first period blood to wipe into her face because generally all the girls who just had their first period are virgins. But the question still remains, does it really work? Because personally, if this does really come from witchcraft then I'd probably be more disinclined into believing it. Oh well, that's just a theory anyway :)

yes maybe that woman did that to see if her skin looked more beautiful ^^ but you know in our organism we need oxidants that make our skin look younger. so bcs period blood comes also inside of us maybe it has oxidants i have no idea. anyway if in your country people believe in that is ok^^ as long as its not dangerous for them that for what you said isnt is ok to do that^^ maybe work for some girls^^ but is great that you didnt try that and your skin is beautiful^^ and not with acne^^ thanks for like my response^^ too sweet of you^^

ha ha ha ok so i know this. i was told before by our maid that is should do this... along with other stuffs related to this... so i have also skipped 3 stair levels, i have bathe with some local leaves... and i have also stepped on something (i can't remember anymore for what purpose this is... I have not tried to do the wipe whole face thing... as i think that is tooo gross.. and along came puberty, and highschool, and college... and all the other stressful days... i DID not develop any acne or have had my face full of zits or pimples... so that is NOT true... :P I would say development of acne, pimples can be attributed to your lifestyle, even genetic make up.. but nope, you can't prevent it with this kind of doing hehe

Hahahaha! Skipped three levels! Oh yeah I remember this one too. I just don't know the purpose of it. Hmmm... I didn't know about bathing in local leaves and stepping onto something hehehe :) I know, the wiping thing is really gross. Well, you're one of the proofs that it really doesn't prevent acnes or pimples. I agree with you that development of these facial flaws is caused by genetics and lifestyle :)

Hi Veronizm, I am from the states and have never done this nor heard of such a thing. Yes...it does sound very gross. I actually think acne is hereditary. I had it as a teen and I'd probably have done about anything to get rid of it. I have 4 daughters and two of them had acne and 2 did not. I know the emotional pain that goes along with acne and still, I have to say that I would need something to convince me that this worked before going to such a gross and nasty extreme. I think I'd love to hear from all the ones that got acne even after trying this.

Hi sid. Yeah, I think acne is hereditary too. And I understand the emotional struggle that comes with it. But yeah, going to such nasty extremes is just impractical. I simply don't believe in shortcuts in life, superstitions or not. I believe that work and discipline has to be done =)

Hi, I never heard of this superstitious before, maybe in my country, the old folks don't have such practice. But I am wondering is it real? However, I feel it grossed to do it,very dirty as it is a blood and you were to use the blood wipe to your face...I don;t think I am going to do it. For me, I don't really believe in superstitious unless it really have the scientific reason behind it. or else, I won't accept the explanation.

Me too, I don't believe in superstitions unless it's based on scientific fact or it has some logic into it. I've heard some people and friends say that it really prevented them to have acne but no one has really explained scientifically/logically why.

Honestly, I've tried this but not to my first menstrual period. I think I did this after few months of my monthly period. The blood is only few so it's not that gross. I've had few pimples in my puberty stage, it comes one at a time but much bigger than the usual most of the time it has abscess at the tip (ewwww). Until now, I only have few pimple and it doesn't stay long so I just let my pimple die and never use any pimple remedy products. Some of my brother and sister had too much pimple but most are pimple free. I remember my gay college classmate told me that he did that with his mother's period in the undergarment, now that's really gross! He's also had less pimples.

I see. So far I've never really known someone who can attest the potency of this practice, except for the two friends I've mentioned that I know have flawless skin. However, I don't see them anymore so I don't really know if their skin is still flawless up to now. Anyway, that gay college classmate of yours was really funny, hehehehe! So far I've never known someone who's male who have done this, even gays. Bless that classmate of yours who had the guts to do it, let alone with his mother's period! :)

He is really funny man or should I say gay but he still wears man's clothes. I think he did that out of curiosity and youth. I didn't believe in that myth though I still did it cause I am young that time. I strongly believe that is not true. If you base it in scientific explanation, that is wrong cause menstruation blood is so dirty with full of bacteria so if you put it on your face, it might get irritated.

I've never done this! Nor have I ever heard of such a thing. That is definitly unusual superstition and or belief. I wonder if there was a purpose to this of non complexion benefit that one would think such a thing as being beneficial.

I think it is a crazy thing. It is gross certainly and I could not do that. I did not do that gross thing but I never suffered from acne. My complexion has always been smooth and free from blemishes. Even during my high school days when almost all my classmates are red with pimples my smooth face was a standout. I was not even using any expensive toner or astringent on my face, but just ordinary soap and water only. I believe there are those who are really born prone to acne and they must take extra care of their face and must watch the food intake too. Wiping face with first period blood has nothing to do with it. If there are those who did that and have maintained unblemished skin then that is just a coincidence.

I agree with you. I believe that having a blemish free skin is about having a healthy diet and the genes are a big factor. I myself didn't suffer from acne breakouts, except one or two zits at one point in time or another (as I mentioned in my post), as well as my mother, cousins and other relatives. So it really has to do with genes. What amazes me though is that some are still doing it (or so I think). I mean, I'm not questioning their judgement or anything but maybe because their elders are forcing them to do it?

i find this really gross. i'm a filipina as well, but, i'm sorry, this really grosses me out. my family's not superstitious either so i've only heard of this from my seatmate in highschool. she did it, and up to this day, she has perfect skin. i don't know if that has anything to do with the period thing, i guess it's just in her genes. i don't really believe in it 'cause it doesn't make sense.

Yeah me too. It doesn't make any sense to me at all. I did try to find some logical explanation to it, like maybe it has some substance in our first period that if we apply on our skin would forever protect our skin from acne/pimple-causing materials. But science (and nature) just doesn't work that way. Because having pimples/acnes isn't not only about our skin's surface but also has a lot to do about our diet and yes, our genes :)

This sounds really..indescribable, I am not finding a proper word for that as It sound to me not good at all,Imean how come someone wipe their face with blood, and their period's blood! I never did this and even if I was ask to do this I would be refusing.

I know what you mean! That's why I never did it. I just can't imagine myself wiping my face with my period's blood. Just the thought of it makes me shiver. Yeah, it's really indescribable.

I also heard about this and it's really funny. I never believed in it and I don't care if you won't have pimples or what, it just doesn't sound right and gross. There are other ways to make your face pimple free that's way more hygienic.

Well I just hope for all of the girls who have done this, (and no...I am not one of them) that it worked. Because it would really be terrible to go ahead and do that to yourself and STILL get acne.

jesus this it's so growse...and I don't see the connection. anyways I wouldn't do it...never ever, I prefer to have my face covered with pimples that doing it. It's a thing about education. I mean if you have a acneea problem you should go to see a doctor. in my country I've heard something about washing your face with urine, for the same problem...it's simply growse

i did that! but not the blood itself. my mom lightly rinsed off the blood first before she made me wipe my face with the soiled panties. know what? i never had acne/pimple problems. i will let my daughter do that also. i am expecting for her first menstruation because she is almost 12 years old.

That is probably the weirdest thing I have ever heard of. I know we have alot of ole wive's tales here in my country that sound upsurd too. I see it being a traditon but doubt it really works. Just like the ole wives tales. Like putting butter on a burn and stuff like that.

Yikes the mere thought of ever doing this not only sounds really gross but not very hygienic at that. God Bless all who do this for what ever purpose but this is an area I will not explore.
