My son's classmate did not get an exam...

As I was waiting for my son to finish his monthly examination, I got upset when one of his classmates went out together with their teacher. The boy has no permit for the exam. He wasn't able to get the exam and he's about to go home. He was crying and I know he felt rejected. I talked to his teacher and she also seemed so upset because she can't break the school's policy which is "No permit, No exam". She blamed the parents of this little boy for not paying the monthly tuition fee to get the permit. She cannot do anything and as their second mother, she told me that her heart was also hurting. She reiterated to us parents who were waiting at that time that if we failed to pay for the monthly fee, a promissory note should be provided in order to accept the child and get an exam. So, that's a lesson for us parents. As for the child, rejection can be traumatic I hope he can get over it.

All I can say is, if the parents don't have the money to pay the tuition then don't enroll your child in a private school. And the policy of the school is wrong.

Kristeena, is your son schooling in public school? if the answer is yes, i believe the policy is not applicable since you've said only miscellaneous fees are collected.

Absolutely right...public schools offer free tuition fees, only miscellaneous fees are collected. The problem in public schools is the number of students that belong in one section. They are most crowded at times. The quality of education is being affected. Otherwise, they need to seek ways on how to pay the tuition fee if they still want their child to study in a private school. The school policy is still in question right now.

Of course we do not know what the circumstances of the parents are. It does sounds like that they got too busy and failed to meet the deadline for the promissory note.I am sorry for the child.

I feel bad for the boy. It is not an excuse if they have no money to pay for the tuition, the thing is they can go to school to let the principal know their situation. They never know maybe they will get sympathy from the principal.

I guess this is to do with the tuition fee. When I first read it, I assumed that the parents had to pay a permit for the exam alone and it was not to support the school. So in reality the parents did not pay the fee. If they had been unable to pay it because of financial difficulties, would it not have been better to talk to the school authorities and tell them the situation? There are usually ways to help. I hope it was not because of wrongful pride that they did not take that route and I do hope that the boy does get to take his exam.

In order to get the permit you have to pay for the monthly fee worth less than a thousand peso. The school can issue a promissory note but they should get it a week before the examination date.

It sounds really sad and humiliating for the little guy. Ah it would have broken my heart as a parent that my child would have experienced this. Sometimes as parents we get so buy and forget and other times it could have been due to lack of money. I wonder if the parent could have contacted the school, although I did read that the teacher said a promissory note could have been done. This had to be tough her the teacher also as she was a barter of bad news for the child and it had to hurt her as well. I hope the parents can rectify this as the child must really be hurting.

The teacher was also teary eyed when we had a talk because she told us that as a teacher, this boy is also her son, her second son. I'm sure the parents would feel guilty but what if they really can't provide for it. The school is giving a special exam for those who didn't get on the exact date of examination, but they said that it was another set of exam which is harder than the first one.

This kind of school policy really is annoying. The school admin should consider the students' welfare. This as you have said could cause trauma to the young boy and it will remain in his mind. I so hope too he get over it easily.

Yes, that's right. No matter how ready the child is for that examination, he still have to wait the special examination date for those who failed to pay or failed to get a promissory note.

if i'm not mistaken, this no permit, no exam policy has been lifted already even before i graduated college (so that was like 3 years back). this isn't allowed anymore. students who don't have permits will still be allowed to take the exam but their final grades will be on hold until balances are settlef. maybe the parent of the child can check with ched regarding this. i think they already have released a memo about this issue.

I don't know about this policy. I think I will personally check on DepEd or Ched because I don't know the parents of this boy. During our acquaintance meeting the adviser of my son already brought up this issue and many parents have reacted.

i have been to two universities and none of them had the no permit, no exam policy. i'm pretty sure they have this memo released already. what i'm not sure though is if it's only applicable to tertiary level as i read on the news. i hope the boy's case regarding his no taking of the exam be settled.

I feel sad for the boy. I am seeing myself on him. Anyway when i was in college and near examination and i do not have money for tuition i cried every night and felt envy for those student whom their parents are rich. My parents saw me crying but they can console me because they do no have money. What i do is to lend money from my rich classmate and wait till i received my salary in my part time job. it is hurting on my part and i got traumatized that every time it is near an exam week i was panicking to get money to pay for my tuition. In my university there are policy like that, no permit no exam, however, i had meet some kindhearted professor before that they allow me secretly to have my exam when i did not able to pay for my balances. They allow me to take the exam but they will not give my classcards if i did not pay the balances.I hope this teacher allowed the poor boy to exam secretly. If i felt traumatized by this, and until now i remember it, how come the young boy? Life is so unfair.
