I would like find out some things about myLot. I wonder does anyone know about this?
I notice the population of myLot have increased by quite a lot. I would like to know how myLot managed to keep pace with the speed.
1. does myLot use dedicated servers?
2. if so how many dedicated servers do you have?
3. How much does each server cost?
if you know about this please let me know thanks.

I am sure they have dedicated servers as the amount of stuff on here is outlandish for any shared server I would suppose. As for the members yes the number is in increasing by the day, however many are not so active before, so I have to imagine that the numbers perhaps incrase a bit but the users cannot be the population number.
In fact I was in a discussion last week with Alice and she gave us a tip. See the url above, I will place it here.

Okay change the last numbers to =1 this is the very first post on my lot 5 years ago and it was deleted. The very first post is actually =3. If you view that none of those members are active any longer.

Looking at the whois details they host with a company called rackspace and as such I would say they are definitely using some form of dedicated server, whether that is a cloud set up or colocation is down to specifics.
Due to the way mylot grows everyday I would say they have a scalable set up with a minimum of 2 servers one active, one real time back up. But they could quite possibly be running more than 1 live server, running 2 or 3 to cope with the large usage on a world wide scale.
The actual cost is variable because they may be paying on bandwidth use rather than just a flat rate. So they will pay for the servers and then a scalable amount on top for the amount of bandwidth which the site gobbles up and possibly a scalable fee for daily increase in data storage.

It's most likely a few more but I wouldn't have thought it's anywhere near the figures for facebook and twitter as there is a lot more activity on those sites than mylot. Just the number of members alone on facebook is probably greater than the amount of daily activity on mylot alone.

It is clear that everyone has answered your questions. I hope that you enjoy being on mylot. It is an interesting site and I find it quite fascinating at all the discussions that we come up with.
There are times that I wonder though, if people fully grasp that it is better to write out more sentences and give others a better idea of what they are trying to talk about.
It looks as if some feel that by posting more questions that are one line will create more flow for money, however, in many aspects it takes more effort and time.

Yup, inactive users should get deleted but I think (opinion) if they did these, the post of the inactive users would also get deleted so its better to not delete them. I noticed that mylot increases by a hundred everyday.

haha =D Though i have been a member here for 3 years, i stil dun really know how mylot works behind the scene.. haha =D All i know is that, mylot do really have an office somewhere in USA. ONly a couple of mylotters happened to chance upon the actual address of it!! hehe
I think mylot should be a big company on its own, while this forum is just one of their sidelines, and it's doing great for them.. hehe

I really don't directly know the answer to the questions that you've asked. However, I know that I've been a member here on mylot for over a year now and I've never had problems with the speed of my connection to the site and I've also never experienced many times where I am not able to access the site. That said, I would assume that there are dedicated servers for mylot, but I'm not absolutely sure of that fact. I also assume that the vast majority of their members aren't really active on the site.
