I've had most of my dreams come true, so I created more dreams. Having a fall gathering on hundreds of acres where everyone forages for food. We all bring it together and have a meal. Another one is to grow and/or find 90% of my food. Another one was if I can't do the above due to lots of work (I wish right now), buy 90% of my food locally to be defined as in a 100 mile radius. Another was to have 3 forms of alternative energy helping to run my home. Soon the wood stove will be going and that is as far as I've gotten and that's only supplemental to take down the dampness. I had wanted wind and solar by now, too. If I had been able to get land near a waterfall or at least running water, then hydro would have been nice, too. I think some of these can be acheived if I get a reliable job. I think some, I'll have to retire first. But I'm not sure I'll accomplish all of these. Of course, debt free is another one. Your turn. What dreams do you have that you haven't realized yet?

One never knows. I read about two people like the two of you. Later on in life, they met again and did get married. They were in their Elder years, but it did happen.

Hi Writersedge, Let me start with the lighter side (hoping that you people would not mind) - I want to own a space on the moon for my grave. That is one and then there is another - I want to have at least one of the Seven Wonders of the world in my name. There are a couple more but I think that would be crossing my limits here. :) Seriously speaking, at the moment I have only one dream - to get healthy and start earning on a regular basis. Its been long long 10+ years that I have been ill and suffering from this Ulcerative Colitis and its been long 3 years that I have not been able to work due to the complications in my health. I really want to achieve this dreamand give my loving wife some respite. She has been suffering a lot because of my health and I cannot bear to see her suffer all day all night just because of this. Thanks for providing me a space for sharing my dream(s). theSids.

If the man who played Scottie on Startrek can have his ashes let loose in space, then who knows about your first dream. Since everything floats up there, you may have to amend your dreamsome. I think the 8th wonder of the world is that human beings have survived with all our stupid fighting, wars, diseases, etc. You're a human and you have name. You've survived. Some day, some relatives will look you up and you will be famous to those on your family tree. Seriously speaking, I hope your health does come around. Have you researched it online? Made friends with people who have had it and are in a better place with it than they were? Sometimes it helps. You're welcome, and may all your dreams, esp. the last one, come true.

Yes, the dream of owning a grave at the moon is inspired by Scottie from Star Trek. I am a great fan of that original series and remember having watched all the episodes they telecast during Sundays in India (long back in 1980s). Thanks for your suggestion of searching the internet for the Illness and I have been doing so. Still to find some people who have benefited from treatments locally because undergoing a treatment from a foreign doctor is not only going to be expensive but also the prescribed medicines may not be available. I too wish the last dream comes true and soon. Regards, theSids.

Well, I would want to be self employed. And to have a kid. I haven't done that yet, but I am working on it! :)

Good luck with both of those. I tried self-employed a few times and they didn't work out for me, maybe when I retire. Haven't tried for a baby. Not one of my dreams. Helping take care of other people's children was and I did do that.

" I've had most of my dreams come true, so I created more dreams. " I love that; it describes human nature in a nutshell. I have dreams (I call them goals) and as they happen, I create more, so that what I'm dreaming about today won't always be what I'm dreaming about tomorrow. Right now, I want to write more and find more free time to "do my own thing" which includes a little bit of everything. I want to quit, once and for all, working for someone else. Some days my health makes working very stressful and I have to push myself to get things done, so it would be nice to not have to do that. I'm on track, but not quite there yet. I also dream of being able to move back to the country, but I have a sneaking feeling that's an impractical dream and maybe impossible at this stage.

It sounds like one goal, you're almost there. The other one,you may have to modify a bit. My teaching goal, I had to modify years ago. The only job I could get was in a prison and right now I can only get substituting. But I still taught. When I see people who received college degrees in Teacher Education and they've worked as cashiers and managers of stores or as dheriff's deputies,I was very lucky to achieve that goal up here at all. Take care and may all your goals come true, one way or another. Just out of curiousity, why do you think the 2nd one is not doable? What would have to change to make it doable? Or could it be modified to make it doable?

I'm not sure it would be practical because of my health - at least the way I would want to do it. I'd love to heat with wood, grow all or most of my food and so on, the way I did when I was younger and healthier. Another strike against it is that I would have to sell this house to have the money to buy another place and there are so many houses like this one for sale around here that it would be a miracle if it did sell, especially for enough to buy an acre or two in the country. Up until fairly recently I believed that it could happen, but I'm getting older and tireder and sometimes it just makes sense to face "reality." Only sometimes, though. :)

So you may need to modify the dream because of your health. There are some things that you may find interesting: 1. Houses in the country tend to be cheaper than houses other places. The more country (farther away from cities), the cheaper they tend to be. So let's say your house is $400,000 where you live and the same house is $200,000 where I live. The rest of the money could go toward repairs and land ($100,00 repairs and $100,00 land) It may not be double in your area, it may be 1 1/2 times, but still, there is usually a big difference. People who go from the country to the city usually loose their shirts, but the other way around, usually works out way better. 2. As people get older, their knowledge is valuable. You could have people come and learn how to forage one thing for a day and charge them not much money or have them forage and give you a percentage of what they foraged. All kinds of possibilities. Examples: A. My first teacher would teach foraging and then have us pick stuff and prepare it for a wild food pot luck. B. My 2nd teacher went for walks with us, taught us to identify things, charged us a fee. Heating with wood works best if you have more than one generation doing it. For example, one person who stays up at night and takes care of the wood stove or people who take turns half the night one person and half the night another person. Unless you get long burning wood like oak, it can be as often as every 2 hours and with oak, it's still every 3 or 4 hours. They have wood pellet stoves that are every 8 hours now. It's still wood, but you have to buy pellets. Most people I know have tow sources of heat. Wood by day and oil by night so they can sleep. So 2/3 day with wood and 1/3 with oil or 2/3 with a regular wood stove and 1/3 with a pellet stove. I suggest you research your dreams and see what things might be practical. Linda Runyon is a person you might want to research the life of as well as other foragers. Health--either you will be healthier as a forager and stronger or you won't be. Depends on what is wrong. Some people become healthier and some people decline. If you have friends or relatives that live in the country, you could stay occasionally (visit) and find out. If you want to do it, then try to walk as often as possible, at least once a day. Build up a little more per day. Foragers who buy the right land can be self-sufficient, eventually, only foraging 1/2 a day and processing for a short period of time per day. Even if you did like an ex-boyfriend of mine did, every year, for 2 weeks, he lived the life he loved. While you and I are gatherers, he was a hunter and every year, for two weeks, that is what he did. He rented a camp for 2 weeks and did his own thing. If that is too expensive, then maybe for at least a weekend per year. I've had to modify my dreams and I think most people have to. There is the ideal and the reality. The house I live in, cost $45 thousand dollars originally and mortgaged was supposed to be $65 thousand, paid it off early, so it was $62 thousand. It was a fixer-upper, so new fuel furnace, new well, new septic, new bathroom, new roof, so let's see, $1,000, $2,000, $8,000 for those two together, $5,000 for the last one, whatever that all adds up to plus the $62 thousand. Oh yeah, I own almost 10 acres, too. Mostly swamp, but there is a lot of good food in swamps (not to mention medicine plants) and the trees are growing bigger and drinking up a lot of the swamp and the years that are warm and drier are less swampy. I have 3 apple trees in the drier areas, raspberry bushes, blackberry bushes, grapevines, plus lots of wild food. The same house in the city, $100,000 even with this recession. My taxes are $1,500 for school and the same for land, so $3,000 this year, but minus almost 6 hundred for star exemption. Now I'm pretty extreme and most people wouldn't live in this place. It was on the market for a year because no one wants to live in a swamp in a fixer-upper and my husband is pretty unique, too. Miracles? I was told no house around $100,000 with land. Not going to happen. Real Estate people and Bankers told me, impossible. I did it in way less.

Debt free would be one. Good health and fitness will be another. Needed repairs to make this old house more liveable would be another. If you are serious about wind power you may want to see if there are any DIY instructions, because we talked to a representative at the fair. Even the small units are more expensive than a small house. I do recognize the fact that I make use of some wind energy if I hang my clothes and open windows for cross ventilation. I have some solar panels and I believe they help. I know there are DIY instructions for that. I always wanted to build a solar porch on the south side of my home, that would passively collect the heat. Too close to the property line though. A dream would be to have enough free time to travel and the money to do so as well.

Those are good dreams you have, some of which are mine as well. I think I will add to it is getting my book published and finish school so I can afford to have my own 100 acres where I can forage food..:)

Good luck! It takes a lot of $ for 100 acres, but if it's a dream you work at, who knows.

I have several dreams. First one is to become a published author. I have wanted this since Junoir High. Then I would like to see my grandson change his attitude and behave more. He has some problems. And finally I would like to meet this guy that I have known online for a couple of years now. He is something.

You didn't say what your dreams were, or how you are working toward them. Either one would be more informative and give me something to comment about.

I have a lot of dreams that are still pending. Dreaming really gives hope that someday it would come true but dreaming without acting is useless. But some dreams will never come true like me, I dream I would become an NBA player to be tall and that won't come true whatever happens because I'm not good at basketball and I'm too old to grow tall. I guess being rich would be the one I would like to attain now and finding someone whom I'll gonna live with for the rest of my long life.

There are needs and wants. Like we all need to earn a living. But we may want a way to do it that isn't practical. Some times modifying our dreams makes it more practical. Like I taught inmates for 10 years. I couldn't get a job teaching kids so I had to modify my dreams. I know people who became refs or score keepers or did other things for minor league sports and were paid, not much, but a little. Some people become gym teachers or coaches. So modifying a dream can make some aspect of it come true. Take care.

I have accomplished some of my dreams, but some of yet to be forfilleid. But yet, what fun is life without having somethings to strive for and achievement.
