If they can't take care of the puppy you should ask them to bring the dog back to your care. That is the right thing to do cause the dog might die if not give a proper care or they might let it go away.

I wonder why the puppy dog was in front of your house, was it abandoned or was it just lost? I always find it sad when seeing people just abandon the puppies...
Yeah, young kids might get bored easily after awhile, but if there's someone who teach them taking care of the puppy and also playing with him, slowly when the relationship has been built and I suppose the kids will also be responsible to the puppy. The puppy will sooner become part of the family, but not just a toy. But I think it's also good for you to tell them if they really can't take care of the puppy, and if you can take care of him, I suppose it's better for you to take care, so that the puppy won't be abandoned again if the kids don't want to take care of him.

A lot of times the excitement of a new pet WILL wear off, but that doesn't mean they won't still love the puppy. It just means that they are now facing the reality of having to give walks and food and care on a daily basis. This can be hard for children, especially younger children, which is why the ADULT has to be willing to help with this.
If you really thought that they were just going to play with the puppy for a few days and then get rid of him, you should not have given him to that family in the first place. Since you did, I'm assuming that they're not the kind of people you thought would abuse or mistreat the puppy. I think that he will be fine with them. I would worry less about them wanting to get rid of the puppy and more about whether or not the puppy already belong to someone. It might have been better to wait a few days before giving the puppy to a family to keep.

You right, but remember, the child always love pets (in my opinion). My little sister love pet, my house has a cat and my sister play with him all time. They looke very happy together. But one day, the cat is lost. My sister was very sad. Now, she always look at the cat's pictures all day.
