How is your eye-sight ? Getting better or worse ?

I started wearing eye glasses since I was in the senior year at the university. I could not see what was written on the board very clearly. That was when my doctor recommended me to wear reading glasses. After that, my eye-sight kept getting worse. But, now, surprisingly, it is getting a bit better. Probably because I don't do readings as much as in my university days. How about your eye-sight ? Getting better or worse ?

I've had bad eyesight since I was three. I needed strong prescription lenses in preschool. It's since leveled out a bit, but I'm still really young so it'll probably get worse with age. I don't think the amount of reading you do has any bearing on your eyesight. There's really no evidence of that. I'm an avid reader, and I wouldn't give up books for anything. If I go blind... I'll learn brail. However, there IS strong evidence that suggests staring at a computer screen for hours can make your eyesight worse and possibly make you go blind.

Since you were three ? Yeah, I have heard of cases like yourself. Yes, spending too many hours in front of the computer can seriously effect the eyesight. Best wishes to you.

Yup. Got glasses when I was three years old. Made much havoc on my self-esteem.

My eyesight is getting worse. I started wearing glasses when I was in 5th grade. I was complaining of not seeing the board clearly when I was in 3rd grade. If I was listened to, I could have just needed correctional lenses and this would not have gotten this worse. My eyes' grade is about 300 - 350. Not quite sure.

Yes, some people needed to wear eye glasses from very early years. If I had seen the doctor, he probably would have suggested me to wear glasses during my primary school years too.

Unfortunately for me, it's getting worse. I didn't notice my eyesight going bad. Things felt normal and then one day I wondered why a friend of mine could clearly see what was written on a sign several meters away. I thought it was normal not to be able to see something that far. I got glasses in 2009. Now it is already very obvious to me that my eyesight is blurred and I actually don't see the faces of people about 5 meters away. I may need to get new glasses real soon.

I am supposed to wear glasses all the time, too, but I don't. I work in front of a computer every day and there's no problem for me seeing something that close. My usual problem is reading signs and recognizing people from afar. On certain situations I wear my glasses like when watching a movie or attending a meeting where I would have to look at a projected presentation on screen. But most of the time I don't wear my glasses and I don't know whether that is making my eyesight worse. Honestly, I've never had a second check-up yet.

I was very amazed too how fast my eye-sight started getting worse. I am wearing glasses all the time now, especially when driving a car. It is good to have check-ups periodically.

I have to wear reading glasses whenever I read or do any kind of close work, myself, these days. I went to an eye doctor years ago who told me I had astigmatism in one eye and nearsightedness in the other. I always thought they were both the same. It makes sense, though, because both of my parents were nearsighted. I always had good eye sight until the last few years but I guess it happens to all of us the older we get. I did wear glasses my first year in college but I think that particular eye doctor just wanted that money, lol! Also, glasses were very fashionable at the time and I wanted to be in style! Wire rims were very popular and that's what I got.

One needs to take care of course. Me too, I have to reduce spending time on the computer these days. The glare from the monitor screen is not good at all for the eyesight.

I am still now emmetropic. But as I have crossed over the age of 40 years, I have already developed presbyopia. So i have to use a convex lens for reading and hence I wear a bifocal with plano in the upper part and a convex lens in the lower 'D' of the glass.

Yes, I notice many people wearing bifocal eyeglasses. Of course, one has to take the doctor's advice, what best suites. Have a nice day !

For your kind information, bifocal eyeglasses are to be worn when an individual crosses over 40 years because presbyopia usually develops after this age. Cause of presbyopia is the gradual loss of elasticity of the ocular lens along with weakness of the ciliary muscle. As age advances, degree of presbyopia too gradually increases with it.

I needed distance glasses starting in middle school. As I approached 40 I no longer needed them for a few years, but now (in my late 50's) I need both distance glasses for driving and reading glasses for reading and doing my crafts.

Yes, I am near-sighted too. I have to wear eye-glasses when driving a car. I just dare not drive without wearing eye glasses. Even then, I do not drive in the night time.

My eyesight is great these days. I wore glasses for most of my life. I started wearing glasses when I was 10 years old and wore them till I was 51 years old. I got lasik surgery on my eyes 3 years ago and it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. Over the years I wore glasses or contact lenses and hated both. I always had sores behind my ears or/and my nose when I wore my glasses and I hated my contact lenses because they always made my eyes so dry that my vision was blurred a lot. I used drops but they only helped for about 5 minutes after I put them in. So now I got my eyes lasered and I can see far away but I still can't see close up. They can't fix both, far and close so I had a choice and I picked for them to fix the far away. So when I am doing something close up, like posting in mylot, I have to wear glasses. Also working on the computer isn't good for our eyes either. Good luck and take care of your eyes. Cheers my friend and happy mylotting, Chris

Hello Chris. Thank you for sharing your experince. I do wear eye glasses, have been wearing them for many years now. But, I never had contact lenses. I wouldn't like that at all. Very good that you decided to have lasik surgery.

So far so good with my eyesight. I do a lot of reading but have been lucky enough not to have problems with my sight. Sometimes these things happen slowly over a period of time and people don't realize it until they just can't see. It's important to get a checkup every now and again.

My eyesight is getting worse badly, and I still have a lot of books to read. I started to wear glasses after I entered colledge and the degree of my eyesight grew rapidly. I have known some methods to help to recover eyesight. For example, you can put your hand in front of your face ,stare at your handprint for 3-5 seconds, then look at distant things for another 3-5 seconds. Try to do these two actions alternatively and it will help to improve your eyesight. I have tried this method, but my eyes were tired when I did this. I wonder if it is a scientific method to protect eyes . I hope I can find a sciencific and effective way to protect my eyes.

That is very interesting. First time I have heard about it. I have not been doing any eye exercizes like that. I suppose exercizing would be helpful for relaxing the eyes. Thank you.

Oh yes, working on the computer the whole day, and reading in the dim light certainly are not good at all for the eyes. I would say you need to give some time for relaxing your eyes.

My eyesight is getting worse. I'm 20/20 when seeing things from afar. Reading is my main problem. I have to push away anything that i have to read far from my face for me to be able to see it without the aid of reading glasses. My eye doctor says it comes with age, but staring into a computer monitor all day and all night is a huge factor that could contribute to eyesight problems.

mine keeps getting worse too! i tried looking at greeneries or things which are far away and it seems to work. but nowadays, i wasnt much bothered to do that and my eye-sight has been deteriorating since then. maybe its because of the amount of reading and close work i do often.

Yes, you are right. Relaxing the eyes once in a while helps the eye-sight. I stroll around in the park near my house once in a while. That is very relaxing and refreshing.

Mine is getting better, I think. I started wearing glasses when I was in grade school, and at first it was really bad. The grade kept rising and I had to do multiple check-ups in a year. I tried contact lenses for a while but it didnt really help me much. But now, I think it's getting better coz the grade hasn't been skyrocketing. I think its because I've been following the doctor's advises about my eyes.

Hi greenline, my eyesight was really good during my childhood. I found I couldn't see what were written on the blackboard when I was in middle school the by the end of the second year. I had near sighted and was advised to wear glasses. No wonder I found it's rather blur when reading. Since then I need glassess to read and write. Few years later I suffered from migraine every now and then if I didn't put on glasses watching tv or reading. When checking my eyesight again after using the glasses for five years, I was told I had astigmatism problem and the the degree of nearsighted increased as well. And getting older and older my eyesight has become worse and worse And I depend on my glassess badly Happy posting

Yes, that's how I started wearing eye glasses too. But, in my case, as I grew older, the eye-sight improved a bit. May be because I don't read books like I did during my university years. Best wishes to you !

I don't have a good eyesight. I am near-sighted. I just found that my eyesight gets worse. Probably it is because I have spent much time on computer. In my opinion, I don't want to depend on the glasses. If it is not necessary, I won't wear glasses. As I think wearing glasses all the time will make the eyesight worse and worse. I love China

For me, I've been using eyeglass since college, but it made uncomfortable then so I decided to use contact lens. But it got crumpled twice while in my eyes. It was so painful. Since then, I avoided using contact lens. I Probably had a mistake on putting it on. Now I know that my eye sight is getting worse but I preferred to use eyeglasses after having that painful experience with contact lens.

Oh, contact lense crumbled in your eyes ? That must be very painful, indeed. Very dangerous too. I have not had contact lense so far. I wear the ordinary eye-glasses only. I am afraid to wear contact lens.

Oh no, my eyesight? It's getting worse. The doctor said I have poor eyesight, not because of lack of vitamin A, it is because of my work, too much radiation and too much exposure to computers. I already had glasses graded 150 x 150.
