Winter is coming soon! It is time to make sure the pipes are wrapped and weather stripping is in order. Yesterday I drained the sprinkler system and added new weather stripping around the exterior doors. Next on the list is to clean out the gutters and wrap all the outdoor faucets. What preparations are you taking or have started taking to be ready?

Pulling out all the winter toasty pj's and re-washing to get them ready... I have a large assortment so I am getting them ready for the brutal cold... This will be my first winter in an apartment after no longer owning my home. , so I can feel the frigid apartment already.

Yes, winter is on the way, and we have to be prepared for the freezing weather conditions. One thing I have to make sure is that the furnace in the house is working well. The heating system is very essential. Secondly, I will be checking if the doors and windows are ok. Looses windows can be the place for freezing air to sneak in.

I bet... with your location a furnace is a MUST. Do you have a second form of heat as a standby?

I live in southern Tennessee, so we don't have to do that much to get prepared for winter as it doesn't really get that cold down here. However, I used to live in Chicago and we did really have to prepare for the winter up there. We would wrap the pipes and bring in the houses and cap the outside faucets. Down here it doesn't always get below freeze. We still do prepare for the winter to some degree (I guess it is hard to the Chicago out of us). But really it usually is never a problem. If it does get cold it is never for long enough and always warms up by the afternoon.

I wouldn't know. You see, we only have two seasons in my country -Summer & Rainy Season. Although, I wish in this lifetime I can at least experience winter. To be able to make snowmen and snow angels.

After the water pipe that froze and dumped 100's of gallons of water into my crawl space, which then came pouring into my basement when it thawed, we added extra insulation, and a bib, a way to turn off the water to the pipes in the bathroom that we hardly use, and whose pipes are on the outside wall. The next thing is to add the plastic sheeting to the windows. We spent about 50 for all the sheeting, and it saved us quite a bit of money each month.
