Did you study something because you really wanted to?

Was the subject of your studies something that really interested you or other factors contributed in that choice? People study subjects to find a high paying job or because their family wanted them too. Others study just to have a degree and others just have one thing they're good at and simply follow that. What were the reasons that made you study that particular subject? I chose philology because I thought it would be easy, since I am the lazy type and don't like studying. How about you?

I've studied many courses because they were requirements for me to get my degree. But the major I chose was my choice and that was fashion design. Eventually, I didn't like it so towards the end, I was going because I just had to finish it and didn't want it to go to waste.

i was not the one who originally choose what i studied, it was my father because i couldn't then. he chose what i took because it was in-demand and my cousins are taking the same. it's not really a problem for me though i didnt really pick it or like it but eventually i got used to what im doing and like it already.. well, thats why i passed.. hehehe..

huh, like you say, I've never study something fully because my intersting, when I was a student,I studied because parents ,teachers and someone around me, some my classmate study hardly just because they don't want to be row down by others, in my opnion, little of the student study fully because their intersting. Now I study english or others sometimes just because I don't want to be at grass everyday after worktime.the another reason is I had studied english for ten years at my student time but my english is still poor today, I really don't want my ten years is ineffectual. That's all.

There were two factors that led me to take up engineering in my college days 1) because i was good in numbers and science and 2) because my elder brother influenced me. I took this course because i believe i could get a high paying job and a good career. Looking back there were no regrets that i took it. I was able to major in electronics and was able to have a good back ground in computers both hardware and software. This prepared me for the computer age then the internet age. I know my experience is not isolated , there are others who went to thru the same process!!! I believe that there is a purpose why you went thru Philology!

I come from a family of businessmen and entrepreneurs. I studied something related to the humanities, and they disapproved of it. Until now, even though I have graduated and am working already, I can still feel their disapproval. I guess for me the issue is that they look down on me. Just imagine, when I finally got accepted to one of the most prestigious universities in the country, my grandfather just couldn't hide his VERY surprised reaction. It was like he couldn't believe I passed. His disapproving and looking down on my subject of choice is a sore point for me and I've always wanted to prove to him that he's wrong. Only, I've still got a long way to go. :) You see, he is very smart and successful and it would take a really great success to impress him. Which I'm not even sure I want to do. Why would I work my butt off to impress him, anyway? I should work hard for myself and not mind him. Yeah, I should do that.

Hi Christinelle, Unfortunately, I did not study anything of my choice until I passed out and landed with my career. In our family there were always constraints - financial and also the parents were somewhat traditional - so I could not study anything of my choice. It was either too costly or something that the family did not want me to. I could not study Astronomy or even Management or even join the Defense Services. However after my College, when I got a job, I have been studying things that I want to. Today I work as a computer professional and consultant and am happy that I can read something that I can make use of. I believe that there is no age to read or learn and that keeps the things going well with me. Also I have a passion to learn and this helps too. Have a great time. theSids.

What I studied was what really interest me. I did try to study different thing before that but I quit after realising and made sure that it did not interest me at all and that there was no point to keep doing it. My family did try to ask me to do this, do that, or be this, and be that...but none of them really met with what I really wanted to do for life, so I refused to do all of them. I didn't see the point of doing what other people wanted me to do if it doesn't make me happy.

My course in college was really not my choice. I was planning to take architecture or civil engineering but the college i went in to have full reservations for both courses already. They advised me to take any engineering course for my first year and just shift course on my second year, and so i took chemical engineering because it's the only engineering course open. after my first year in chemical engineering course i enjoyed the laboratory projects and just decided to stay and continue it.

Yes, really interesting. And I really learn a lot to the subject of my studies. I didn't study to find a high paying job.Not just because my family wanted it but because I want to have a degree or profession. I want to gain more knowledge, because I know KNOWLEDGE is a thing that nobody could every steal.

I don't really have any favorite subject that I love to study since most of the time the reason why I'm studying is for the purpose of passing the subject because I'm afraid of failure/having to repeat the subject all over again. But if it is about earnings, I diligently look, read, study books, websites, just so my knowledge increases because I read that money is just a product of the imagination.

I know most people end up studying for things they don't even need for their success, but it's very hard to judge whether or not it's worth studying for something...

No its time to change these orthodox thoughts. We can find this type of decisions are still prevalent in the middle classes of the society. A good example would be the middle and lower classes of the Indian society where many Indians are forced by their parents or by the poverty status to enter the IT sector even if they don't like it. They have to cope up with immense pressure due to the global economic developments. They have to migrate to other countries and face the difficulties and work in a field in which they don't want to. Life is supposed to be pleasurable and about doing what you want.If you don't feel happy doing it don't do it

Right now, I am finishing my B.A. and I am studying what I want to study. No one is forcing me to study what I'm studying. I study these fields because I'm interested in them. And I feel like I need to study them for myself.

Well, i took my university without even thinking of the career i will be having to. Its the only school that still accepting enrollies the time i figure out not to waste one year of waiting to go to university, and i took any 4 year course available and planning to transfer to another school the next semester. Unfortunately, I got a group of friends and never leave the university until i graduated... I got work not related to my course and think that it was just a waist of time and money spending at the university, and diploma I've got is just a piece of paper.. Never realized until now that a piece will bring me to the world i really wanted to and learn to apreciate career i took. :=)

I am now studying IT and this does really interest me. I started this subject because the world is all about internet, programming, computers, networking, ... Of course I want to earn a lot of money when I grow up; every wants this. I am glad the job I will do later will be good paying so I can have a happy life and do a job I really like to do and where I can have fun.
