I remember vaguely being under 5 years old and somtimes watching TV in the dark with my father on an old black and white tube TV. This was in the latter part of the 1950's and we lived in New Jersey and got TV from New York City. In those days channel 13 was still a commercial TV station and not public broadcasting as it is now. I remember that channel 13 had someone called "Uncle Fred" who used to show Gumby cartoons. I also remember seeing old serials of Commando Cody who used to fly through the air with a jet pack and chase the bad guys, who I think were mostly foreign agents. The first movie I remember was "Target Earth" which I think was also on channel 13. I was a sy fy movie about these squarish robots who came from outer space and were killing humans using a death ray that came out of a screen in their heads. The film starred Richard Denning who was in a lot of 50's sy fy movies. What memories do you have?

I was a child of the 80's, I clearly remember watching Romper Room, The Elephant Show, and Mr Dress-Up. I also remember most evenings my father would go to the story and by a treat and my parents and I would watch the evening shows. I remember watching alot of episodes of Degrassi Junior and Degrassi High, The Cosby Show as well, McGiver, The A team. I also remember a few shows I can't remember the names of and of course I always watched Growing Pains. I seen alot of cartoon movies but the first movie I really wanted to see, so bad was Home Alone.

I too grew up in NJ, and remember getting TV stations from NY. My first memory of TV is of watching the Mickey Mouse Club. Of course all the shows were black and white back then. Do you remember the "Million Dollar Movie"? They would show the same movie over and over throughout the week. It was always a 'big deal' to go to the grandparents house on Sunday (or was it Saturday?) and watch the Lawrence Welk show together. And let's not forget the great Saturday morning programing of Mighty Mouse, The Roy Rogers Show, Sky King, Superman (the original with George Reeves), and Rin Tin Tin. I even went to NYC several times and watched the shows in person... How about you?

Million Dollar movie was on Channel 9 or 11 if I remember right. Besides the Mickey Mouse Club was the Wonderful World of Disney which had episods of the Swamp Fox (Leslie Nielson) and Texas John Slaughter (Tom Tryon). Saturday afternoons had Chiller Theater on channel 11. There was also Zacherle, the cool ghoul, who I believe is still alive and available for hire at Halloween time. Do you rememer Sergeant Preston of the Yukon or Howdy Doody? How about Officer Joe Bolton, Claude Kirschner (and Clowny), and the Merry Mailman (Ray Heatherton the father of Joey Hetherton). Back in those days "The Early Show" and "The Late Show" were movies. And I just remembered Wonderama with Sonny Fox and frequent guest the Amazing Randi. Wow.

How do we manage to pull up these memories from so long ago and far away? I think it was channel 11, now that you mention it. I watched The Wonderful World of Disney every week. Remember how Walt would come on first and introduce the show? Of course I remember Howdy Doody, and what about Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Blue Jeans? I also remember Sergeant Preston of the Yukon, but not officer Bolton, that may be a show I didn't watch. I did have restrictions on TV and had to pick and chose which ones I really really wanted to watch...I also remember Amazing Randi. Did you ever watch the Soupy Sales show? Or Ed Sullivan?

I remember watching Dave Garaway as a child. I know we were in the house on Madrona, but before my sister was born, so it had to be in 1957 at the latest, since we moved there in mid-1956 but before my sister was born in late 1957.

I saw TV for the first time when I was 11 years old. We went to live in the US for a year and a half as my father hada fellowship to do research. My parents bought a TV as a means of having us learn English. It was a big black and white thing that you had to hit once in a while to see the image better. We did learn some of our English with the TV although not always the words my parents would have wanted us to learn. We also had huge fights over the programs although there were only 3 channels. I liked the Betty White show and Ozzie and Harriet. I was madly in love with Ricky Nelson. My brother saw Gene Autry which I hated because they used words in Spanish with a horrible accent and other cowboy movies. My younger sister got her pick on Sunday mornings because there was nothing else to see but a sort of ice age Sesame Street. I think that 10 years later, TV was a lot better and there were more alternatives. Even now, I think that some old shows of those times were much better than the ones we have now. I remember Captain Kirk and Spock, Dark Shadows with that sexy vampire and BBC´s Upstairs, downstairs. I could go on forever!

I don't remember Betty White having a TV show although she was in a show called Live with Elizabeth in the '50's. Ozzie and Harriet was on for years but I think we always watched something else. I did ge to see some ofthe shows a few years ago befre I moved away from New Jersey. They were on at 6 AM on Satuday mornings on channel 31. Ozzie and Harriet started on the radio and I heard a few episodes of the old shows broadcast at night at 10 PM from Canadian station at 740 AM.

Betty White was a great comedian. I last saw her a few years ago in that show The golden years. She was the dumb lady who had had a farm.

I was a child of the 60's and I remember gumby. We talking about the same cartoon, he kind of looked like a rubber eraser and had a dog or pony (not sure what it was now) called pokey. I hadn't thought of that cartoon in a lot of years. Mostly, my earliest shows I remember watching were Dr. Dress Up, Sesame Street and the Friendly Giant. They sure were simple days, my biggest worry being trying to get the TV set before my sisters.

I remember clearly that my parents and I was invited to my uncles place to watch the Olympics. At that time the broadcast was in black and white. I was amazed.

I remember some of the early European Olympics were broadcast by satellite but the satellite was a large sphere that the bounce signals off of. It was called Echo and I remember being the the back yard at night with my father watching it go by in the sky. The TV signals were fuzzzy though as you might expect.

The old black and white tv that was a large set in our den. We thought that was the neatest thing. Also remember the day Pres. Kennedy was shot. I couldn't get away from the set, but had to return to school.

My goodness, my first memories if watching the TV go back over 55 years ago and watching the grainy old black and white 'Watch With Mother' 'The Woodentops' and 'Andy Pandy' were my favourite. That was in the time when we only had one channel - BBC. I remember when I went visiting relatives in Birmingham aged 5 and they were just receiving ITV before we were in Lancashire!

My earliest memories were of the "Wallace and Ladmo Show" it was a childrens television show that combined live interaction with children in the audience and cartoons. The cartoons were early "Tom and Jerry" and "Underdog". I also remember about 6 channels total and I was the remote control. Every Saturday afternoon there was some type of monster/horror/fantasy movie after the cartoons. It would be Godzilla and Mothra or Hercules and Jason and the Argonauts. I also had my first taste of this yellow and gold football team that couldn't win a game, but I fell in love with them. It was the early 70's and TV didn't have such a grip on peoples lives as it does today.

Looking for work and having a major knee surgery has turned me into a TV aholic. I pretty much watch it all the time and fool around on my laptop. Sometimes I'll even have a show on my laptop and another on TV while I'm composing articles. To top it off,on occasion I'll have PIP on as well the other mediums. If there are two programs that I want to watch at the same time I'll PIP or just surf back and forth. I could probably write 2-3 articles on the programs I watch. TNT is probably the most watched during the day. Then, in the evening and with new fall season, I'll hit the major networks. Late night is usually the premium channels where I can catch an old western or suspense/thriller type of movie. Then I just start the cycle over again. It's rather sickening and very unhealthy. I can't wait until I can move around again.

I remember watching cartoon network with my little cousins. And Home and Away with my grandmother. Also a lot of soap operas. Watching soap operas with the other girls was like a ritual, every day we'd watch them. That was when I was in school already. But the earliest memory I have is watching early morning cartoons when I was in kindergarten before going I would watch cartoons as my mum was getting ready for work.

I remember having only 3 channels and somebody had to be on the roof while another watched the television moving the equipment on the roof. It was a small black and white television, as there wasn't any color televisions in my area. Any size television was exciting, as we would all stare at it. Most of the time we listened to television shows, as only Dad could go on the roof. Sadly, this brings back sad memories for me, as my Dad passed away this year.

At the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto in 1948.I went with my Dad and we saw a science exhibit featuring television. It was a black box about 12 inches square with a screen that showed a snow storm. it was snowing like crazy, and it made me shiver when I watched it.

I grew up in the seventies. We had a color tv, as well as a HUGE black and white that had legs and sat on the floor. I basically remember watching what my older brothers and sisters were watching: Mission Impossible, Space 1999, All in the Family, etc. I also remember getting up really early on saturday mornings and watching some black and white cartoons with a bunch of mice and a cat, but it wasn't Tom and Jerry; I don't know what it was.
