Killer whale deaths at Sea World: what do you think?

Just recently, a third orca in Sea World has died in the last four months. All three of these orcas passed away without reaching 30 years old. This may be considered young, as some orcas reportedly live up to 90 years old. I'm a little torn about what Sea World and other institutions are doing for the animals. For one, Sea World boasts about a breeding program that helps increase the population. But then, these creatures remain in the possession of Sea World, where they are held captive, trained and "forced" to perform for audiences. What are your thoughts on the orcas' deaths? Are you for or against Sea World keeping orcas? Thanks!

Yes, I do agree that stress contributes to shortening their lives.

Orcas are beautiful and in my opinion should be free. Studies have shown that all animals, including the animals we like to see in the zoos live shorter lives in captivity, more times than not. Ocras travel in the sea in family groups, migrate, and are often seen in large groups. These are all things that are not possible for Orcas in captivity. We not only take their freedom we stripe them of their true way of life. They are very social animals just like humans. Just imagine how you would feel it you were seperated from all you family and friends, forced to live in a compartment just big enough to move around some and prevented from all forms of social activities. Pretty boring life. Even Orcas born in captivity must have that migration drive that never gets fulfilled and must long for company and socializing. I believe many of them lose their desire to live. I would love to see them too but I would prefer to go out to sea and observe them in their normal habitat.

Thanks! But wouldn't it be a little hard to actually go orca sighting?
