My family are members of a shooting club. Each year they have a flea market to raise money for the club. The association uses the money so that young people do not have to pay more than the membership fee.
Many young people may not be in any club because the parents can not afford. Flea market means that many more young people can be members. Being part of a community and having fun is so important for young people.
The things we sell are donated by other people. I help at my leisure. I feel I give more than to donate money or buy lottery tickets. It's also really fun to be able to set up and help when I know that money makes the benefits they are meant for.
Or what do you think?

Once or twice a year, a group of my friends attend a "Turkey Shoort". It is put on at the local Shrine club. We don't really shoot at turkeys, we pay anywhere from $2 to $10 to shoot in a match. You shoot at targets, and there are about 13 people per match. You use shotguns, and the person who has the closest shot to the bullseye wins usually a turkey or a ham, sometimes other prizes. Hence, the title "Turkey Shoot".
I know it's not quite the same, but the proceeds go to charity. The Shrine Club donates all of the proceeds to Children's hospitals. I think this is one of the best causes, plus it is a lot of fun.
And for people who do not like to participate in the shooting matches, their are tickets sold for things like shopping carts full of groceries, slabs of ribs and other food items. They usually start at $1. This makes it fun for everyone.
It is kind of the same type of thing as your family does, and I am sure their are a lot of people who do not spend money, but donate their time to help. Just like you do. And it's the people like you who make it all worth while, and my friends have gotten to know some of them by name. So, thanks for all you do. And also, thanks to the sponsors who give out the prizes to everyone. These are great causes!

Each fall our local Lions Club does this, only they host it two times per month for the months of October, November, and December.
I go as much as I can because I know the money goes to support several good things and stays in the community. I also enjoy the feeling I get from helping.

That sounds really giving and generous of your parents. That's got to be creating outstanding karma for them, if you believe in that sort of thing, which I do. I would do something like that, but I am a student in an urban environment so I'm not really sure how I could apply an idea like that to my own socio-cultural situation.
