Many of you will find it strange how much our world has changed. After world war II, when I was a child, TV was not common, what news we got was from the newspaper or the radio and that was edited for our consumption. Now we live with news of the entire world and sure it is still edited to some extent but we know so much more about the day to day happenings. But still in our own lives we must focus ourselves on the small things that happen around us. The point of this discussion is how do each of us mannage this? Do you focus mainly on family and work? Do you even pay attention to world news. Does that news have to been unusual or alarming for you to notice. I am not judgemental about how you handle this I would just like to know. I find that the more I listen to the world the less emotionally involved I am,
my small life with all it's ups and downs consumes my emotions. How about you?

Hi savypat, I have always been interested in world news, as was my father who was more than seventy and blind, when we got our first radio. My father was self educated, reading everything that was available to him, so as you can imagine, losing his eyesight was a great blow to him. The radio than, which one of my sisters purchased for him, was a real Godsend. Since my father was Sixty when I was born, my recollections of him as a working man are dim. Most of my memories are of a very wise and patient man who taught me more about life than anyone else. In my teens, I spent hours reading to him, something that he clearly appreciated but never expected of me. I enjoyed doing it as I could see the joy that it gave him. The radio brought the world to our door and we discussed everything that was happening. It was the beginning of a shrinking world and although we though we had so much, it was nothing compared to today, when the whole world appears to be at our doorstep. I have to believe that it is good as everything happens for a purpose. I think that it will eventually serve to show us that underneath all our different belief systems, superstitions and cultural differences, we are all alike, all one with the universe. Yes, there are some things that alarm me but usually only for the moment. I want a better world for everyone, one free from hunger and war and where we will all understand that we really are our brother's keeper. Blessings.

This can be interesting learning how to manage things around us, and be able to deal with all the changes. Especially if you are dealing with a lot of Medical issues or just issues in general that you know are being effected due to maybe the Economy, the type of job you are doing, and your life in general. I am always interested to see what New changes are taking place even though sometimes I really wish things could be a lot easier for sure.

Whenever I go on line, I usually go to the world news site and browse around. And after checking email I check out the news that is on there. I have a lot of emotions going on when I read this as I feel that even these topics connect to myself in one way or another. But every day I focus on myself to better myself in whys that I feel is bettering me. I think it goes hand in hand for me.

The vast majority of things that I allow to dictate my life are those things that are associated with my family and friends. The reason for that is because of the fact that they are the people that I care the most about. I do, however, try to keep up somewhat with news that is going on around the world because it is also important to our family and the lives that we live even if it is not directly related to what we are doing at the time.

I was born in the 40's and have seen a great many changes.
Some I can say are good, most bad.
I stopped reading the papers as there was never any good news,it was so depressing.
I now see my country being destroyed because of the fast pace at which things do change.
We of course are being manipulated in our thoughts and beliefs due to the control of what the children are being taught in schools and we by the new sources.
We are told what we can say because it may offend someone, the teachers can no longer teach true history as it shows how hatred was an everyday event, yet we must try to control something we have believed in for years.
In my youth, there was crime, but no where near what it is today, when we pulled pranks, even on Halloween, they were harmless, now it is destructive, why?
I am sorry, once I get going on the past like this,I get carried away.
Thank you for reading so far.
Many Blessings.

"Knowledge is power" no doubt about it.But what knowledge is the question..whether commonsense knowledge or or knowledge of world affairs or knowldge of polotics or knoledge of work, knowledge of scientic advancement happening around the world.
As I see without knowledge of certain things we cannot get on.knowing things casually is different matter though not very useful to day to day living.I have seen people reading news paper from top to bottom.Suppose we concentrate on knowing world affairs and neglect family affaira we will be landing in akward position. Therefore family affaira is my first priority....

Living with knowledge is one of the most important task in our life. It makes us to be updated daily events in the surrounding and the world itself. It will help us to evaluate our status and gives us insights on how to respond certain situation. Being knowledgeable in the current events is a challenging one to each of our daily lives. We need to focus our goal without setting aside our family matters. It is just a matter of balancing and time management. We can do both and be a multi-tasker.

I was born in the 60's and remembered that TVs were black and white, when Hanna Barberra produced a string of cartoons for us kids then. From the mid 40's to the early 60's radio news /television news has blossomed. The newspaper industry also grew.
Even now after being exposed to computers, softwares, applications, and lately social networks, i am amazed that technology has brought us to where we are. Yet we adjust and we cope. We swim rather than sink. We learn to multi task to be able to do what must be done(or what we think must be done).
Yes the more we listen to the world(because of the things that must do), the more we got ourselves less emotionally involve. But i also find that by our selves we are able to identify what is important to us(whether that be our family, career, faith, service etc) and set it up as our priority/priorities. This is what i see.

Duhhh I dont even like to watch the news and read newspapers, I do that only when I feel like or have certain interest in an article or news for my sake. These news channels and newspapers might have brought the world closer in terms of communication, but whatever you see is that which is shown for increasing their TRP ratings and not your benefit :D. Lots of news and articles are based on controversies never will the show anything which is for a good cause or good achievement for a certain society, country, class, people if that is not going to earn them huge TRP rating.
Ratan tata helped a lot of people when there were terrorist attacks in mumbai, he compensated even those who were not the workers in his hotel, compensated for families like funding education for 10 years and stuff, but nobody cared to show this in news as that was not going to fetch them any trp's here :D. so that is the real face of media most of the times. Nobody does things for good cause unlesss he is going to be rewarded by that :D.
I do not care for watching news and stuff as I consider it a waste of time. I don't care if the job markets say that I am not updated to the latest happenings, like hell I am not interested to update myself for the sake of their wants and my progress, I rather believe in gaining real and intangible knowledge which helps us grow with experience in life.

Technology is developing at a very fast pace. Recently Mobiles have shown us the future potential of keeping us updated instantly. Today, we get instant news on mobiles.
Well, all these have improved our lives to a large extent.

I am getting older and older, and i get to know that in the world, there are problems. not about my own life, but also others. my life seems perfect if you compare it to some 16-year old boy from africa with aids. aids from his mother..
We have to help the 3rd world.

I think, like you, I have become desensitized to a lot of the news, because it is everywhere and all the time. Nothing shocks or alarms us really. The other thing is that so much of what we perceive as entertainment is based on news type situations or reality. It becomes hard to distinguish what is real and what is not, and react appropriately. Yes, news is edited, often with the intent of guiding how we process it or feel about it. It is given a new slant by each reporter. I think this also leads to skepticism on the part of the news consumer because we begin to believe the absolutes like "all politicians are crooks" and "everyone has a hidden agenda" and "it is a government coverup." I do tend to dismiss a lot of things I hear as being the same as the day before.

The world is getting smaller and smaller in terms of communications. And our life seems to be getting bigger and bigger with all the information available at the touch of our fingers. It could be overwhelming, true. We cannot avoid being affected by what is going on around us, near or far, and whether we admit it or not.
But I tend to go with you in that my life is consumed by family and work. Not because I get emotional but because with all the information coming in, one is not sure which is true, half-true, or if it even true at all. Lol. News are filtered to suit the purposes of whoever is the sponsor, not the needs of the consumer.
So....back to my own life, family, and work which are already complicated enough. Lol.
Have a good day savypat!

I don't read the papers or watch the news much anymore as I think it is a waste of time. i just look at the headlines as I try to discern the news behind the news. I try to figure what the news really is these days. I don't think we are told much of the real news and what we are told is no really the news.
