Emergency hotline 117

Philippines

Hi everyone! I hope someone knows about the emergency hotline here in the Philippines. It's 117 right? It's because I encountered a motorcycle accident scene earlier today. When everyone was thinking and saying "call an ambulance," no one knew what to do. I didn't know or at least it never crossed my mind about 117. Is it the counterpart of USA's 911? Also, if a person has no load, can that person still call or text the hotline? I hope that accident doesn't happen again but if it does, I hope I'll be better prepared by that time. I felt useless because I'm a new health care professional, but I've no work experience yet so I was really clueless. I felt bad not being able to do anything to help but thankfully, the person was still able to get up and his companion took care of him. I do hope they went to a nearby hospital next and he got appropriate treatment. Thanks everyone and have a nice day!

It's free to call that number but that was before. The last time i heard, they are charging people for calling the hotline and the main reason for this is prank calls.

Thank you for the response ybong007! I see. I hope they keep the hotline free from charge but along with it, they really pursue prank callers and deal with them to the full extent of the law.

sad to say that 117 emergency hotline is still not available nationwide, it only applies to the major cities here in Philippines. for example here in our place you have to dial the 11 digit cellphone number of the authorities to contact them in case of emergency. any emergency hotline doesn't requires any load to contact them. 117 is not also a universal emergency number here in our country for example in cebu to contact police you dial 117 for ambulance assistance dial 161 - for eruf or 143 - for red cross... i hope our government will establish a firm and universal emergency number for the welfare and well being of our countrymen especially in case of emrgency.

Hi ajosh319! Thank you for your response and the helpful information. I thought about it too and I totally agree that there should be a standard hotline for these kinds of service in the country. We were totally clueless Thanks again and have a nice day.

Hello enslin porter. now that you have known, i do hope you will try to call the ambulance next time something like this happens.but at least the person is alive that is.always have you phone with load ready. keep it fully charged so that when you call them they will respond immediately. accidents happen in the roads, that's nothing new really.
