Rent referrals first before upgrade or upgrade first before rent referrals?

I started joining ptc sites, but i can't get the real concepts, please give me some advice and guidelines about upgrading and renting referrals and some tips and tricks to be able to profit on it, thanks...

for me it will be better to rent referral first and get as much as direct referral you can. When you feel that you get a lot of active referral either by renting and direct. Then you can upgrade your membership so you will not waste your membership upgrade
