Hi, I read this on Yahoo! a couple days ago and thought I'd share it with my fellow myLotters http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101004/ap_on_he_me/us_med_laptop_toasted_skin Apparently, prolonged laptop heat directly on your lap on long term can damage your skin. This happened to a teen who played games too long and ignored the heat. So just a heads up to all of you with laptops on your laps right now! Be safe! Meowcow cares.

The last time I visited a computer parts sales center, I saw a device there called "laptop cooler" where you can place your laptop so the heat that is emitting from the laptop will be reduced. I guess, through the use of that device, it can help us prevent such untoward effects to our skin.

Good advice! I think I have heard of those and I believe they actually do work. Well, basically anything that comes between your laptop and your lap should be good. But I'm guessing these coolers are much better for your laptop than just tables or pillows. I'll have to go check them out and test it out for myself. I just wish they all fix this problem soon so we don't all have to be making all these gimmicks just to protect ourselves and our laptops. I can't wait for technology to leap another step! But very good advice for everyone out there, thanks for that, magtibaygom! +!

You know, my laptop is on my lap right now! That's funny. It seems to run hotter there than over on the desk. But when I sit at the desk I cannot see the tv! I like to work and watch football on Sunday afternoons! Oh.. and sip a cup of coffee too! heaven!!!

The troubles we have to put up with nowadays! Am I right?? LOL! I have the same problem with the laptop-TV-obstruction thing. I totally relate. I like to watch TV while I work too! And DITTO on the COFFEE on a Sunday! I used to do that too but now I put a good platform or a pillow in between. I knew at least one of you out there had a laptop on their lap right now and would be reading my message at the exact time. Just thought y'all should know, for all out healths. I know a whole lot more people are doing this right now and should be warned.

I do have my laptop on a rack. it's a Toshiba so it tends to over heat too easily so I keep in on a rack all the time. i just buy a simple baking rack that you cool cookies on and it works real well and it's cheaper than buying a real laptop rack!

Lol well now that's just genius. I just use stacked pillows! Even cheaper! Hahahaha! Well at least our laps are safe, right? Hope a lot more people get to read this! I can see this a lot of danger cos a lot of people are probably doing this.

Whew, luckily I sometimes use the lappy on my bed and on my lap but not without a cooler! The one with the soft cushion under so it lands comfortably on my lap. Sometimes heats like these can literally burn your skin too, not jus discolourations.

Good that you do that! I've always done that too. I always felt like that heat was bad for you one way or another. Like how cellphones are supposedly cancerous if used for long term, although I don't believe that one has been proven yet. And yes there have been cases in the past where the heat was just too intense and it burned some people! Faulty laptops I think old technology. This new one takes longer to burn you. LOL!
