I was listening to the radio the other day (KQ92, Minneapolis's classic rock station), and for the morning show, they had this thing about the top 10 american (classic) rock guitar solos. And it got me thinking about what my favorite ones were! (There are so many to pick from..) Obviously, without including the cliche Zepplin's "Stairway to Heaven", I'm curious to know which are your favorite? I'm also curious to know to open my horizons into more classic rock.. I love it!
Not necessarily in any order, here are mine:
1.) Before you Accuse Me - Eric Clapton
2.) Layla - Eric Clapton (I love him if you can't tell)
3.) Cold Shot - Stevie Ray Vaughan (not necessarily the best, but I love this song, "Pride and Joy" also comes to mind, not necessarily just for the solo, but for the hook & riffs too)
4.) Hotel California - the Eagles. (OK, who doesn't love this song? it would be a crime not to!)
5.) Highway Star - Deep Purple (a GOOD one, although I suppose "Smoke on the Water" should be thrown in this list somewhere, too, in all fairness)
6.) Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower" isn't bad either, although I'm not really a fan.
I guess I could throw in "Sweet Child o Mine" (Guns N Roses), but I don't really like Axl Rose. (and yes, that affects my decision on whether or not to include it. Haha, I'm bad). But it is a good song!
What about you? What are you top 3, top 5, top 7, or top 10? What do you think I might have forgotten, or what do you disagree with?
How about you?
